Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

My life experience as a 5'5" trans gal:

As a repper: "why does my family have to be so short? This is awful. No one will take me seriously."

Post-transition: "I won the god damned lottery."

I assure you I've had my own troubles and challenges in life. But at least in this area I got pretty lucky.

Though even then, it's complicated. Yes, I'm 5'5", but the only way a trans gal is 5'5" is if she comes from a family of short people. I'm the same height as my dad and brothers. I tower over my mother and sisters. They're more like 5'1".

fucking selective breeding.

Me : Wavy hair, curly at the back. Wife : wavy hair.

Daughter : Fucking afro, almost. Doesn't help that her great-grandfather is "Italian"

It drives me crazy how hung up people get over the 6' label; it's mostly dating app bs. The guy in the comic is taller than both of the women, which is generally all that's required to be successful in the dating pool. Sure some women are insistent about the 6' limit, but so what? Given how many people refuse to date outside their race/religion, you're already not going to attract everyone, so if you're under 6' add the height-obsessed to that list and move on.

The morale is to not use dating apps. They are all owned by the same company, whose goal is to be profitable by making you addicted.

Great; where do I meet women where they won’t think I’m trying to rape them.

[–] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 5 points 7 hours ago

have not yet met a woman in real life who talks like that.

If only everyone had such luck.

I used to think I was a hot commodity in the gay community until I realized it was only the ugly old guys hitting on me. Never the hot young ones. Let me tell you, my illusions were shattered. But then I got older and the young hot ones started giving me fuck-me eyes and now my illusions are back again

As a 40 something bi man who's single again for the first time in 18 years, I've been shocked by the number of twinks who have assertively pursued me. Never in a million years would I have anticipated this

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 6 points 10 hours ago

53m omni. I am pleased to confirm.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 28 points 13 hours ago

Sounds like the whole time you were/are the cup of tea of many people, even if they weren’t yours :)

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, when I started getting visibly grey hair the baby gays started to gravitate towards me. I'm still a little mystified by it TBH, I guess I have the Dommy Mommy thing down pat, lol

[–] Xenny@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

The overly empathetic compassionate people pleaser to mommy domme pipeline is real

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 hours ago

I'm 53 and what the kids call omni. Once I hit my forties i was suddenly getting hit on by young CIS men, young CIS women, young trans men and young non-binary folk. Not young trans women though. Only trans women close to my age showed interest, and only if I pursued first.

[–] DaGeek247@fedia.io 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Sniffies is the new hotness, even though it is also venture capitalist funded.

Nah, I was joking. I tried 3 apps this month:

  1. Fet — shows you ads on every move. Even to check your gallery you need to watch full screen ad. Patched this out by luckypatcher - still shows ads now and then. Swaps are limited in free account. No commenting either. No one answered to my messages, nor messaged me. Uses imperial system instead of metric, you can switch it if you verify your account apparently, but I couldn't: my country not supported.
  2. Bumpy — couldn't bare onboarding video that bugged out and started showing each time I launch app. Like, straight up unskippable video about "how great this app is" for about 3 minutes. Also, profile strictly moderated, couldn't even put my discord/telegram, got blocked. Also-also, uses imperial system instead of metric (I live in Europe) and you can't switch it at all.
  3. Velvet — paid account required for most things, "Delete account" button throws 404 error (you can't delete account), "Support&help" doesn't react (probably dummy button and not mapped anywhere), there no profiles unless you max out range (capped for free account at 50km I believe) and then it will show one profile - app just a fraud.

So yeah, nah, I'm done for now. It's not even dating itself that sucks, but even experience of getting there.
