He should try declaring the vote illegitimate and inciting a mob to take over the House—that’s a good trick!

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

Jokes! We got ‘em!

[-] paddirn@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

Nah, he needs to let some of his Republican colleagues get sexually abused and not say anything about it.

[-] donuts@kbin.social 93 points 1 year ago

Poor Gym, this level of abuse must be a lot to wrestle with.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Heyyyo!

His suffering is like a poultice to my bruised psyche.

[-] donuts@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

His pain, our medicine.
His tears, our water.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Bless you friend.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 82 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

And a special cheers to Reuters photog Jonathan Ernst who captured all of the frustration, regret, and failure of the moment in one sour expression: a sweet, sweet nectar!

Pulitzer material right there.

[-] Zerlyna@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

Should use that as the next cover of Man of the year.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Agreed. Suitable for framing.

I barely recognized him with his mouth closed and his jacket on.

More deliciousness here

[-] evatronic@lemm.ee 18 points 1 year ago

He's great at keeping his mouth closed when there's talk of sexually abuse of students.

Jordan, a man who has not been able to get anything through Congress in three decades. Yeah, that’s a guy you want in charge of a legislative body.

[-] Endorkend@kbin.social 38 points 1 year ago

When your objective is to sabotage government, it is.

Keep in mind that representatives are really still playing high school gossip games as their day-to-day life, and I'm imagining a dialog like:

MAGAists: you'll never elect a speaker without us. That makes it our party and we're the boss.
OldGOP: Everyone else wants to make Steve Scalise the speaker, and you can have these fancy titles if you go along.
MAGAists: Nah, we tried that with whats-his-name. We're the boss now.
OldGOP: *eyeroll* Fine, put up your guy and see what happens.
*Jim Jordan loses*
*surprised pikachu*

[-] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

To be fair, a lot boring old Republicans voted for this guy for the same reason they supported Trump. They’re afraid of being called out by the base and or being primaried for not being right wing enough.

The only people who are standing up are the people in districts that are still purple. And there are fewer and fewer of those because of gerrymandering.

[-] BartsBigBugBag@lemmy.tf 8 points 1 year ago

Fox News was actually threatening to sic the base on people who voted against Jordan, according to something I heard on the local community radio earlier. They sent stuff saying like, “Is it true that Representative X is against confirming Jordan? When are you going to let the peoples house open, the people want to know.” To someone at the house. There was another sentence basically threatening to turn their base loose on individual reps if they didn’t flip flop and support Jordan. I’ll have to see if I can dig up an article.

The Republicans have gone so far down the rabbit hole of stupidity that they no longer understand what leadership even means.

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago

I suggest Gym go fuck himself with a saguaro.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

Just try it another 14 times! Worked last time.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

If my tumescence lasts for more than fourteen votes should I call a doctor?

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

By the way, just WHERE is that documentary on him? When is that going to come out?

[-] RojoSanIchiban@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

He's going to go back to his old tried and true methods and help Gaetz avoid repercussions for sex trafficking a minor.

I have a vehicle with normal gibberish for a license number. I bought a plate frame that says, “That’s Numberwang!!”

I know it’s only one in a thousand that someone will actually recognize the joke and get it, but that it is non-zero makes it all worth it to me.

I’m telling you just so that one other person who knows the glorious game of Numberwang is aware. I live for these jokes.

[-] quinkin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Dude looks like a super villain.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Meh- I’d say mediocre villain with delusions of grandeur at best. Really just one of a bunch of shitty off-brand Hall-of-Fascists barely-adequate-and-overcompensating villains.

[-] TechyDad@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

He's a villain alright. Just not a super one. What's the difference? PRESENTATION!

[-] hydrospanner@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

He's not smart enough to be a super villain.

[-] meco03211@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Diet villain.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The loss means that for now the House remains leaderless, as it has been since a handful of Republican hardliners engineered Kevin McCarthy's ouster as speaker two weeks ago.

Many of them are moderates who represent politically competitive districts, while others specialize in negotiating the complex spending bills that keep the U.S. government running, deals that typically require a willingness to compromise.

Four Republicans from the New York City area said they voted against Jordan because he opposed benefits for survivors of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, as well as tax policies and disaster aid that would help their residents.

"He is a patriot, an America First warrior who wins the toughest of fights," Republican Representative Elise Stefanik said as she nominated Jordan for speaker on the House floor.

Democratic Representative Pete Aguilar said on the House floor that Jordan's election would show the U.S.' enemies that "the very people who seek to undermine democracy are rewarded with positions of immense power.

A fixture on conservative media outlets, Jordan has used his perch as chair of the House Judiciary Committee to help lead an impeachment inquiry into Biden that Democrats decry as baseless.

Do we do that here? Honest question from a transplant.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Call me a traditionalist.

Plus an easy way to give ups to the devs.

[-] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Also a transplant. This bot is on virtually every post. No need to give it unneeded praise.

[-] Ersatz86@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Suppose you should refrain then

[-] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Agreed and I do.

[-] Rapidcreek@reddthat.com 6 points 1 year ago

I think they should give Dolly Parton a call. Bet her whip count is better.

[-] fluxion@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

Dolly is too busy actually helping Americans to be wasting time on this clown show
