I find I usually prefer green tea since it has lower caffeine and a softer taste. Thoughts?

Neither: oolong

Best of both worlds, slightly oxidized so blackish but still has fresh herbal and floral notes like green. You can even mix some oolongs with milk and get a nice creamy but still flavorful drink (like black) that doesn't taste watered down (like green)

Hell yeah, Milky Oolong (it's just the name of the oolong, so lactose intolerant comrades be not afraid) is the best. Just fucking delicious.

Charcoal baked oolong and is my favorite.

I'm just happy to be invited to tea.

Bad green tea > bad black tea

Good black tea > good green tea

[-] milistanaccount09@hexbear.net 11 points 9 months ago

Hmm so maybe I need to try to find some good black tea then. I can kinda see your point, I used to have some really nice loose leaf black tea mixes. I wonder if the bulk loose leaf black tea at the Not White Ppl (not specifying nationality bc don't wanna dox myself) is any good: I think the green tea has been fine

geordi-no Green tea or black tea?

geordi-yes Yerba Mate.

[-] star_wraith@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago

Had a Spanish teacher from Argentina that brought around maté and bombilla all the time, that shit’s great.

[-] AlpineSteakHouse@hexbear.net 17 points 9 months ago

Oolong and your false dichotomy is proof that you're not a tea snob and thus not a real human being.

[-] milistanaccount09@hexbear.net 10 points 9 months ago

NOOOOO MY CREDIBILITY AS A TEA SNOB IT'S THE LAST THING I HAVE LEFT IM SO SORRY I WILL NEVER FORGET TO INCLUDE OOLONG AGAIN powercry-1

[-] Tunnelvision@hexbear.net 16 points 9 months ago

I mostly drink iced tea which I’m pretty sure is black tea.

[-] WoofWoof91@hexbear.net 15 points 9 months ago

whatever the fuck yorkshire tea is is good tea

[-] pooh@hexbear.net 15 points 9 months ago

Pu'er is kinda what I've been into lately but Chinese white tea is also pretty damn good. Also genmaicha (brown rice green tea) has always been a favorite.

[-] JuryNullification@hexbear.net 14 points 9 months ago

Black tea in the morning, green tea after noon

Lemon honey black tea and ice

I used to drink a lot of green tea but now my favorite is Oolong. My grocery store caries Ito En and it's the brand I go to.

[-] milistanaccount09@hexbear.net 10 points 9 months ago

Yeah I've had some Ito En before, but it was herbal teas I frankly hated (but that's not a bad thing!). I would love to get back into it so I'll definetly take a look at it!

I prefer Moroccan mint tea, but i always end up getting turkish black tea when i'm in town.

[-] milistanaccount09@hexbear.net 8 points 9 months ago

Oh yeah I'm a true believer in Moroccan mint. I'll have to try out Turkish black tea though!

Gun to my head, I'd have to say green. I grew up mostly drinking black tea with milk (now I use oat milk) and I don't really like its flavour on its own, it's too bitter. I can have it long with lemon, but yeah even then.

Fave green teas are houjicha (boucha), 兰贵人 languiren ginseng oolong, jasmine green and pu'er.

Houjicha (boucha) is so smooth and comforting, it's unreal. There are a few they sell near me and the boucha variety is the best, it's the roasted stem, not the leaf, and it has this smoky sweet flavour.

Languiren is a flavoured oolong packed tightly into little pebbles that look like rabbit shit, that then unfurl in the cup into whole leaves. It's a biting, syrupy flavour.

Jasmine green is a staple, I have a French press in the fridge with some super cheap stuff in there, but it hits the spot damned near every time.

Pu'er is a world of its own and can get spendy, but the roundness of the mouth feel and the earthy tannins approach something like what you get from a good espresso, and is probably my wankiest tea I have at the moment.

Honourable mention to longjing and biluochun but they're a bit to vegetal for me to be a go-to.

[-] The_Jewish_Cuban@hexbear.net 6 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Try steeping black tea at 200 for a minute less than suggested if you haven't. I find that makes Earl grey be much more pleasant to drink by severely reducing the number of tannins.

I actually do this for most teas I drink as I think suggested times are usually terrible.

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 8 points 9 months ago

That could definitely be it. I'm forgetful and usually steep for ages before finally returning to pour. Familiarity breeds contempt maybe, and I don't treat black teas with the same attention I would a green. Thanks for the tip :)

I guess Pu'er can be green, but I've only ever seen black pu'er

I prefer black tea if I'm eating something at the same time, but otherwise it's pretty much 50/50

I prefer the effects of green tea. I'm sensitive to caffeine, but do great with the L-theanine from green tea. I'll usually do Oolong for flavor nowadays though.

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 8 points 9 months ago

One of life's greatest pleasures is having pu'er made traditionally. Gongfu cha style.

Green tea, although my absolute favorite kind is Oolong.

Black tea I usually cannot have without oat milk

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago

Green. Don't like th taste of black tea

[-] CrimsonSage@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago

Both are nice

[-] The_Grinch@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago

I actually like pg tipps the most. I have no taste, I know.

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago

The best green tea is better than the best black tea, but the worst black tea is better than the worst green tea. Given I work in coffee, I'll take a dang solid matcha in-house than I'll take our also solid earl grey.

[-] Ithorian@hexbear.net 6 points 9 months ago

Green tea is at the top of the list, then herbals then black. However lapsang souchong, a smoked black tea, it's my all time favorite.

[-] seeking_perhaps@hexbear.net 6 points 9 months ago

if green tea, jasmine. if black, early grey or chai. also quite partial to matcha.

If you like tea you're an honorary member of the maw British aristocracy and an imperial subject of the corpse king, therefore have your opinion on the question null and voided for being royalist scum

I love all tea, growing up in ukkk left me with a general inclination to black tea.

I’ve been drinking a lovely holiday blend lately, and my wife got me a tea advent calendar

I also really got into fermented fireweed tea this year…lovely caffeine free alternative

[-] gaycomputeruser@hexbear.net 5 points 9 months ago

I love white tea. I also love pu'er. Tea is just really good.
