Real talk, I would give so much up to keep my AC in the degrowth future. I will eat ze bugs. I will live in ze pod (as long as it's temperature controlled)

Heat pumps are fine.

Actually, heat pumps are amazing and should be everywhere. They're so incredibly efficient, and could absolutely be run with solar (especially since the times you really need them tend to be when it's sunny)

dish washer man says heat pump heat is less efficient than heat pump cool, and that aircons are heat pumps.

Any country subsidizing heat pumps which can only heat has created policy based on a misunderstanding of the technology which itself comes from ignorance re: the energy mix of a power grid and historical heating fuels.

This part might be a bit misleading. I don't think any of the heat pump subsidies exclude heat pumps that can cool.

ACs are necessary (in many climates) and will only become more so. ACs are the main reason why Singapore was able to develop in the 60s while other equatorial cities developed less
