Ah ok, it's this list, and apparently I'm on it ๐Ÿฅฒ

How am I not on it? I literally mod !twnw@fedia.io and it's just about taxing the rich and billionaires. Guess I need to be more active there.

looks at list

I'm not, and lemmy.today isn't either, but litter.catbox.moe is listed, and that seems like a bad idea.

Catbox.moe is a popular free place to host files shared by users here, things like video clips, as it has permissive policy on things like filesize compared to the image-rs setup on a lot of Lemmy instances. Litter is for files where the poster only needs them to have a short lifespan, lets catbox.moe delete them and free up space (and also has a somewhat-larger filesize cap).

Maybe if someone just didn't like catbox.moe at all

which I don't agree with, but okay, at least I get that some people are going to object to some content on a filehosting server where anyone can post whatever they want. But blacklisting litter.catbox.moe but not blacklisting catbox.moe seems bizarre. In terms of content policy, the two are the same.

litter is on the block list because uploads are wiped after 3 days, so it's a prevention step against rapid link rot. The rest of catbox isn't blocked.

It's one of the few parts that isn't weird af, imo.

Also, *.itch.io is on there. That's a popular site for hosting and selling indie games. Seems like an odd thing to blacklist.

There are some pornographic games on itch.io, and maybe the list publisher has an issue with that, but nexusmods.com and loverslab.com and a number of other major mod sites that host pornographic mods are not on there.

All communities ending in "Moe" are blocked, so that's presumably aimed at stopping sexed-up underage manga stuff.

Politically, a lot of auth-left (tankie) stuff is on there, but so is conservative stuff, communist stuff, libertarian (probably right-libertarian), and anarchist stuff.

4chan is blocked.

The (controversial) archive.today family of sites, which are mostly used to bypass paywalls, is blocked.

And all of it under a hidden "advanced" setting you only get to by clicking on a question about why content seems to be missing (which you would never know because it does so silently and invisibly)... To enable "Toxic Mode".

It's one of those things where this could have been done fairly well, by educating users about it... Instead great pains were taken to hide it, make it invisible, and if they were caught have a hidden toggle no one would notice but they could point to as an excuse.

[โ€“] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Makes sense to me. You don't want your content to disappear after a week.

[โ€“] arcterus@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 21 hours ago

Lmao beyond the instance/user bans, I just noticed the shitty community regex bans include GirlsFrontline for some reason. Looking at it, it's seemingly pretty much empty too.

Well I guess I need to up my game, not on the list lol

[โ€“] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 5 points 21 hours ago

Well, my old ID from a now-closed instance is there. I'm apparently in with the cool kids for once.

It's not this app, I think it's a Moderation tool for servers and admins though I might be wrong.

Edit: apparently I did the one switcheroo and you are right, it is the Lemmy frontend you linked.

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 15 points 20 hours ago

Nope. It's literally the front end. That's why everyone is so pissed off. It's hidden secret policing. It's like fucking outlook deciding you shouldn't get emails from your Queer friends any more so it /dev/nulls them without even telling you they ever existed.

They saw something free and human and decided it needed to be caged and twisted to their personal preferences

[โ€“] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 21 hours ago

You are wrong, it is that app!

[โ€“] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 22 hours ago
