NGL the new Jumanji movies are way better than they have any right to be.

[-] whereisk@lemmy.world 40 points 5 months ago

A drop of water in a desert of cash-grab remakes that are significantly worse than the originals because everyone in production knows it's a cash grab and has no creative input other than pumping another one out.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 38 points 5 months ago

The new Jumanji movies aren't really a remake, more a reimagining. Really pretty much the only thing kept from the original source material (book or movie) is "jungle game called Jumanji that becomes real".

They are good but not iconic like the OG

[-] Rooskie91@discuss.online 10 points 5 months ago

Yeah, but I often wonder if this has more to do with the original coming out during my childhood?

Nah, it's probably Robin Williams that makes the OG so good.

[-] theangryseal@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

This is the answer right here.

Robin Williams was amazing. The range of emotions just can’t be topped. He was the most believable actor of all time.

There is only one rock movie, it just has a lot of breaks between arcs.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 34 points 5 months ago

You refer to the RCU (Rock Cinematic Universe).

Hollywood is so pitifully lacking any shred of risk taking or creativity.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 29 points 5 months ago

But the former wrestler The Rock is a totally versatile and talented actor tho! /s

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 months ago

People write roles for him to be that way

People aren’t paying for him to be someone else

Nothing about his acting ability

Watch Poor Things if you want risk taking and creativity. It was weird in the best of ways, imo.

The Lighthouse, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Infinity Pool, Beau is Afraid, the animated Spiderverse Movies, Jordan Peele's movies, Talk to Me, and definitely more I haven't seen.

There's risk taking and creativity, but they're much harder to find because they don't get the advertising budget of the standard boring action-adventure bull crap.

Dune 2 sticks out like a lighthouse in a sea of mediocrity. One of the greatest, and boldest movies I have ever seen.

[-] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 30 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

You mean the third adaptation of a very popular book? Not exactly wildly original.

Still a great movie though.

I think he meant to say baldest instead of boldest.

He’s a melee fighter, range is not his strong suit

[-] Chekhovs_Gun@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Yoooo this was good

It's not a very diverse multiverse.

Shirtiverse. You can imagine the dimensions clashing crossover where they team up.

So you're The Rock in the grey-green t-shirt.

Ah you're The Rock in the short-sleeved grey-green shirt.

Let's swap tops to confuse our enemies!

What I love about The Rock: he's only got, like, three facial expressions and I don't even care - I know he's gonna make it worth it to watch him anyway! :D

Edit: a word

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 months ago

My favourite is Smoulder. Which is yours?

[-] Emperor@feddit.uk 6 points 5 months ago

The classic "who just farted? "

TBF that's the only collared shirt that fits him.

[-] chicagohuman@lemm.ee 24 points 5 months ago

At least two of these are Jumanjis, right?

What are the other two?

[-] abysmalpoptart@lemmy.world 14 points 5 months ago

I would guess the rundown and walking tall. Both are actually decent

[-] turmacar@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

One is probably the Disney River Boat movie.

Decently entertaining for what it was.

[-] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

I think he wears a snappy hat and sharp vest in that one. Decent costuming, it's a Disney film after all. They put all thought into details, and let the plot follow predictable tropes.

Now I'm just imagining Dwayne Johnson asking if he can bring his own jungle jacket.

[-] Emperor@feddit.uk 7 points 5 months ago

Jungle wardrobe full of remarkably similar outfits. Hundreds of them.

[-] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 5 months ago

Obviously top left is a different movie, he's got a different shirt on. The jury's out on the other three though...

[-] maculata@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago

Thumb, thumb, thumb and thumb. That’s all I got from these photos.

[-] Corno@lemm.ee 8 points 5 months ago

There's a lot of rocks in jungles

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

If anything it proves how overpaid he truly is.

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 months ago

Top left stands out though

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

I wonder if he also loves jungle music.
