I asked an 18yo I know whether 'rizzler' was actually a thing people say and they said no. 'Rizz', however, is a common term.

[-] Kabaka@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 3 months ago

At my partner's house, there are two cats: Mr. And Mrs. Rizzler. The teenagers in the house started calling them that and everyone went with it. Before then, the term was used basically every single time I saw any of them. It seems to most often be used as nonsense or just a word to shout at each other while trying to be annoying, but sometimes in the actual context of charisma (for example, a charismatic classmate was described as a "rizzler").

So yeah, it's a thing in some circles, but I'm hopeful this is an isolated incident.

Our internet jokes where just as stupid.

As indicated in the OP, M'lord Bacon "Beans" Stroganoff

(I'm counting more recent memes from Lemmy as millennial since most of us are millennials or Gen X 😁)

I'm 25 and I say rizz all the time

[-] Korne127@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

22 here, we use it sometimes, although basically exclusively ironically (e.g. for a "nice guy" demanding sex)

[-] gwen@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 months ago

it just means someone with a high amount of charisma, thats what rizz is short for lol

I like this so much better than all the bitching about how surreal and unfamiliar gen alpha's shit is.

Something that's really novel when you're a kid is taking a strange premise that seems like a one-off gag and making a whole narrative about it. It's why we had flash cartoons built around the premise of "what if Mario met Sonic using DBZ rules" or why some of us watched hour-long amateur movies about the Nostalgia Critic. I'm not saying those things were good, but it's really subversive when you first encounter it, and it's emotionally satisfying to explore the potential of something you liked instead of letting it be a flash in the pan.

So basically, when the kids try to tell me about the Skibidi Toilet's ability to turn even the bleakest situation around, even though I have no idea what the FUCK they're talking about, I understand why it's so riveting to them.

[-] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 3 months ago

I'm very disappointed people are making fun of the kids, honestly. It's like people forgot how this is the exact same situation as when we were kids, with the older people making fun of us

I was hoping that the cycle would have been broken with the internet, but I guess not

It's just the next step in the evolution of language, humour, culture, and expression, it happened before, and it will happen again. Except it will be somewhat different this time with the internet allowing complex, instant, and global communication. Things will certainly change and develop much faster than they used to. This to me, however, is just exciting more than anything else, I love novelty and new stuff

You wouldn't want to be from Ohio, Ohio is cringe. This meme is Ohio. The knight must always be sigma to our alpha, rizzzler to our for shizzle my nizzle, our Skibidi to our badgers badgers badgers.

[-] Ranger@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 3 months ago

It's all cringe, always has been.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 13 points 3 months ago

That you are from Ohio does not mean you must be ohio.

[-] match@pawb.social 6 points 3 months ago

what is better? to be born outside Ohio, or to overcome your Ohio nature through great effort?

Generation alpha are the little kids coming up.

Rizzler is someone with Rizz, chaRISma.

Ohio sucks. It's a bad state.

Mid is between good and bad, but seems to also mean bad sometimes.

Skibidi is a nonsense word from the Skibidi Toilet Gary's Mod machina videos.

Phantom Tax is something about the Minecraft Phantom creatures I think.

[-] don@lemm.ee 18 points 3 months ago

Regarding Fanum Tax, as per urbandictionary:

Fanum tax comes from the comedy creator Fanum, who is a member of streamer Kai Cenat's influencer crew AMP. The phrase refers to the way Fanum would jokingly "tax" other members of AMP in 2022 by taking bits of their food when they were eating, according to the digital culture database KnowYourMeme. The website says the meme is popular with both Gen Alpha and Gen Z, but numerous Gen Zers say they were not aware of the meme at all.

[-] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 months ago

Never heard of them. Thank you.

[-] don@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago

You’re welcome.

[-] python@programming.dev 3 points 3 months ago

whoa, that makes so much sense! I always interpreted it as "Fandom Tax", which was confusing as Gen Z doesn't really do fandoms anymore

[-] BatrickPateman@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Appreciate the effort.

[-] match@pawb.social 6 points 3 months ago

mid is bad in the same sense that mediocre is never used to mean good

[-] gwen@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

it's actually fanum tax and nobody has any idea what the fuck it means

[-] problematicPanther@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago
