This is a genuine worry of mine...

Edit: to clarify (apparently...), that I look like one, not that everyone who looks like that is a Fascist...

We love our scary looking friends o7

[-] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago

Thank you! Sincerely! I love you, too! And I hope that I'm at least twice as scary to the actual Fascists...

Friggin' hate that this particular style has been co-opted by assholes, I just like dressing in all black and wearing a buzz cut. Makes me feel comfortable in my own skin.

me too brother, ive just accepted at this point that I look like a fascist. ive heard it can be mitigated if you do some little accessorizing like black nail polish or piercings, but I'm not sure those are styles I'm ready to embrace yet (I am extremely self conscious)

[-] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I hear you on the self-consciousness bit, it's why I started wearing the buzz cut... Used to have a glorious ginger/auburn mane, then my 30s started moving everything downstairs. Can only take solace in that I have a Picard head, so I wear it proudly.

As far as accessorising, already have three loops in my left ear and do occasionally paint my left hand's fingertips black for the hell of it. Unfortunately, my face looks like it could plow through concrete for a living, so... yeah...

I have resting angry face and shave my head, so in my case I've taken to wearing lots of bright, friendly colours. Magenta, chartreuse, etc.

Then also being extra extra friendly when meeting folks for the first time. I've seen people's faces in real time realising I'm not a shithead haha.

[-] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Thank you so much! It's of great reassurance to know I'm on the right track with the damage control!

Honestly, wearing black has profound sentimental value to me and I kinda'... don't really like how colours look on me (very pallid complexion with lobster-like highlights in the summer...) Do wear the occasional red T-shirt or mustard yellow top layer, but it's mostly just flat black...

As for my facial situation, I try to be aware of it and either offer a polite smile when I notice someone's looking at me (especially love making silly faces at kids, I hope that doesn't come off as creepy...), or just be friendly and open if someone chooses to interact. Genuinely like being polite.

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah black goes with everything, and works well for really light skin tones too, so it's hard to pass that up.

[-] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I swear, it's like either all black, or radioactive sheen...

Lol I think you've got an admirer - someone following you around, down voting your comments. Unless you're just removing the up vote yourself?

[-] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yepyep, that's just me, don't like voting for myself:))

I know some guys who kinda look like they might be fashy at first glance, but the thing is by talking to them you realize they really aren’t. A lot of the time you can’t help certain parts of how you look best.

Though advice I wish I could’ve given a friend of mine: large men especially shouldn’t get punisher tattoos no matter how big of fans of the comics they are

[-] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Thank you! That is very sound advice, indeed! Fortunately, no such tattoos on me. Don't even much like the Punisher, to be honest, always preferred the nerdier ones.

As far as talking, completely agree, I can't see how anyone would consider me a Fascist after getting to know me at least a bit. But gotta get over that first impression before that can happen, I guess...

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah and I’ll also say, when I see a guy who looks like that, while my shields are up a bit, I know enough chill guys who look like that that I’m not assuming. And there’s also the fact that these assumptions do have a bit of classism to them. It’s just a normal look for blue collar men, meanwhile Nazis wore business casual at Charlottesville and its businesspeople who were majorly involved in the rise of modern fascism. Tucker Carlson isn’t a large bearded, bald guy covered in tattoos, but several anti fascists I’ve met have been.

[-] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Thank you! You're absolutely correct, things have changed. I remember Skinheads being a pretty big thing back in the day, so I guess I still have that image associated with the concept.

Well, now you can sort of add another one to that list! Except tall, relatively lanky, and only one tattoo:))

Another from the same wardrobe:

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

Canon? Frank Castle('s writers) would completely have beef with most of the people who don that symbol, for sure though.

[-] pmk 47 points 3 weeks ago

People associate blackletter fonts with nazis, which is a little ironic since Hitler disliked and even made it illegal to use blackletter in 1941, calling it "jewish letters".

would a blackletter tshirt saying "JEWISH LETTERS" be bad taste?

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago

Round here large, masculine men in that shirt are not uncommon. Mind you round here trans kids need all the big scary men protecting them that they can get

[-] chronotron@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

inb4 it says only if theyre white on the back

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 weeks ago

What's the difference?

I have the opposite thing. When I came out to a friend he said, I knew that yoj were queer of somw kind from your hair. Also earlier got chosen the most gay looking of the group etc.
