Hall effect sticks are only pennies more expensive. Console cost going up so much this go round could easily cover that.
I've long suspected this but this choice, together with Ns historically crappy joysticks is undeniable proof to me that the only reason they don't use them is they want em worn out, to sell more joysticks to us.

I bought the OG switch woth the Melee bundle becaus I played absurd amounts of Melee on the Gamecube. But the walled garden ecosystem is so dumb, not even their own titles run smoothly (tears of the kingdom wtf), all savegames are in Nintendo gulag if the devs don't cover up for it.
Just buy a steam deck, honestly.
Yeah, I grew up with Nintendo, only console I skipped was the WiiU (like everyone else) and as much as I've enjoyed the switch's lineup... I can't justify $500 for the console, and $80 per game. I haven't touched my switch in forever because all the games I care to play on it run better on my desktop, or comparably on my steam deck like you mentioned.

Yeah, that's the next thing. Buying 3rd party games for Switch is asinine because it runs the worst there, every time.
I can't believe that they jacked up the Switch 2's price by $150. Somewhere between 300 and 450 is my limit for a console I suppose, because I bought a switch 1 and was pretty satisfied with it (although I haven't used it in a couple of years because emulation is just better) but a switch 2 seems like a complete non starter to me.
It literally looks the same just with a bigger screen. The graphics don’t seem to be any different, the only difference seems to be the label for which console the games belong to

It’s more than double the pixels displayed in handheld mode, and double again the pixels displayed in docked mode. Resolution is expensive.
Also at theoretically 120hz that takes a lot more CPU and GPU power.
Will games ever run at 120hz? Probably not, but in theory they could if a dev took the time to optimize the shit out of their game.
Even 40fps at 120hz is a good use of it, I love when devs do that on ps5. It’s so much smoother than 30, but without quite the trade off graphically of 60.
The bigger OLED model for Switch 1 at 7" has a PPI of 200, which is higher than most TVs and gaming monitors. The Steam Deck only has an 800p-tall screen. The lack of clarity people saw on Switch is mostly likely the game not hitting the screen's native resolution in the first place. The 120hz kicks ass, but a 1080p screen is a total waste on Switch2.
Yeah it seems a bit of a waste, but HDR and 120hz sound nice to me. I’m spoiled by HDR, it really is my favorite development in graphics displaying tech since probably mid 00s.
It also does 4k docked, which is nice to me. I’m a bit spoiled in that department too.

The switch 2 graphics have more drifting cloud particles.
I learned my lesson when I finally got a lite, got animal crossing, realized they stripped out a bunch of random stuff for no reason, and were never going to add it back.
Remember when people were randomly memeing on Froggy chair? Remember when the geniuses at Nintendo didn't put it in their new game? When they could easily grab the model and just throw it in there for some easy social media advertising?
Not to mention that all the exclusives are mid at best. And everything else came out on PC like 5-10 years prior. I'm not buying Binding of isaac -again-. At least with something like the steam deck I can play anything from steam, and with a bit of effort, basically anything on PC. People need to stop doling out for these lame ass "consoles" that they have to redo every 5 years. I played some Zoo Tycoon recently, without an emulator, and all I "needed" to do is rebind wasd to control the camera. That game is older then the fuckin' gamecube. Good luck playing gamecube games on your switch 2.

Yeah not to get hire real fans but it takes an extremely out of touch game studio to see the amount of good faith support for your game, and how easy and cheap it would be to essentially milk it forever only to spaff out a DLC that's just a half-sequel to a spinoff title and then abandon it forever.
ACNH is insanely disappointing.
I mean they did put the froggy chair in New Horizons for easy social media advertising. That is something they very much did do, albeit in a post launch patch

I’m gonna buy it. I repaired electronics for a living, down to microsoldering level. The joycons were inherently flawed, and all will suffer drift eventually. That said, how quickly is entirely a factor of one’s usage and the amount of pressure you put on the joystick, and replacing them is about $10 and 3 minutes of time with a basic level of competency. I’ve had a launch switch since launch, and I’m still on my first joysticks. I have a set of spares for the eventual inevitability of failure, but I’m not too concerned about these new ones. Repair is part of the life cycle of a product, and as long as it’s cheap and quick, it doesn’t factor into my decision making process very much. I likely won’t buy it this year though, now is the time to stash money for the depression.

Also I swapped out my Switch joysticks with hall effect ones which wasn't that hard but having to do that at all is fucking stupid.
I mean, do you carry the same water for the Steam Deck, which also decided against Hall Effect sticks?
I will never own one so I guess so, although maybe theirs are built better or aren't soldered to the mobo (probably are).
Anything is built better than joy-cons. A metal rod rubbing on a piece of graphite is just such bad design, but I get why they did it, it lets them really slim down the sticks without over complicating it.
You can replace steam deck sticks without desoldering, though the capacitive touch function I think is a soldered wire if I remember correctly.
Ah, OK, thanks for explaining. Yeah that doesn't sound so bad. I'm so fucking annoyed repairing my gaming electronics and electronics in general so any design that limits me having to take stuff apart to clean it, replace capacitors, desolder CMOS batteries, replace parts, etc. is what I want in life.

Yes, it means they get stick drift as the mechanical parts were out. Hall effect sticks use electromagnetism so the parts don't actually touch so they don't wear out. And they're only marginally more expensive.
Nintendo is really cheaping out on this. But even this has nothing on the fact that they're selling physical copies of games that do not contain the game data and only have an unlock code on a manufactured card. It is immensely wasteful.
Even the Xbox elite controllers still use potentiometers. Everyone cheaps out on these things so they can sell more controllers.

They have existed since the Sega Saturn. They don't use them because there's a small trade off between top-dead-center accuracy and not wearing out on hall effect sticks as well as a minor cost difference (and I think power use). Although tunneling magnetoresistance is supposed to use less power and be more accurate overall while having the other hall effect benefits. The only draw back is that hall effect sticks are at the mercy of the springs in the stick since you need those to return the stick back to center, but that's about it.
I'm talking about Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers. Those are somewhat new and cost three figures. No reason why they shouldn't have hall effects.
