McConnon said she had long been a protester against the Israeli government but was still proud to be an Israeli.

She admits to being a proud Israeli after they've done a mask-off genocide and wonders why people are giving her shit for it? Must be antisemitism.

Strasser said he had long been a protestor against the Hitler government but was still proud to be a Nazi

Absolutely wild that a former colony would have negative opinions on colonizer countries

members of the israeli jewish community are afraid to leave their homes

My entire life as a brown person has been full of people telling me my anxieties are nonsense and this motherfucker thinks they’re going to get attacked for a thought in their head if they go outside

dual citizenship and lives out of the country a lot but...

"the majority of people in my community won't even agree to grant me the political power to make decisions on their behalf."

"that's anti-Semitism."

Just for fun, I looked up Bar Clara Mendez McConnon on social media. Unsurprisingly, it's about 80% full-throated support for genocide, 10% explaining why Israel isn't doing a genocide genocide, and 10% Harry Potter.

All through the lens of, "Wow! Look how anti-Semitic Ireland is! They hate genocide!"

Bar Clara Mendez McConnon, 33, is originally from the upper Galilee region, which borders Lebanon, but has lived in Dublin on and off since 2012. McConnon is currently in Tel Aviv with her Irish husband and their two young children due to the discrimination they have received.

have they tried not supporting nazis

ok fuck off then

I wonder why they needed to specify Isntreal specifically...

I wonder how Irish Jews are handling this "antisemitism"...

Should the US start a war with Iran, I fully expect “being opposed to the war against Iran is anti-semitic” to be deployed sincerely.

[–] Dengalicious@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Calling someone antisemitic is just the new version of calling someone a pinko or a red

Members of the Israeli community [...] have emigrated

Sounds like an opportunity for conscience-havers to get lower-priced real estate and citizenship from Ireland! Buy the dip!

Israelis aren't inherently Jewish. I would argue they aren't Jewish at all, given the tiny minority of them that actually practice Judaism as a religious practice rather than the vibes-based cultural order akin to irreligious citizens of "Christian" countries who celebrate Christmas and Easter.

[–] TheDeed@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

You are right that Israeli ≠ Jewish automatically. Not all Jews are Israeli, and not all Israelis are Jews.

But Jews are an ethnoreligious group rather than a universalizing religion like Christianity, and being secular doesn't make you not Jewish. There are atheist Jews, and there are Jews that practice other religions than Judaism.

Faith or ancestry alone doesn't make one Jewish. You can convert in or be born in, but there's no way to get kicked out. (at least universally agreed upon way.)

There are also groups of people who practice the religion Judaism but are not Jews. (IMO kind of hilarious, not sure what kind of person this appeals to, but see Noahchidism for a weird rabbithole).

Also hilarious: If Ivanka Trump took the mic at a press conference tomorrow and recited the Shahada, she would still be Jewish, according to Jews.

Isn't this just incorrect?

First there is this since recently: Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People - Wikipedia

Basic Principles, C.: The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.

Also, from 2022:

Ethnic groups: 73.5% Jews 21.1% Arabs

Religion: 73.5% Judaism 18.1% Islam

Also Fascism can be defined as belief in inequality based on identity, so it doesn't matter if they are religious or not, just that they see this as their identity.

Orli Degani was dropped as an election candidate for the Social Democrats because of her stance on the war in Gaza

Any Israelis or Jewish people who don’t support genocide reporting incidents of antisemitism or nah?

Thank god the UK didn't elect that anti-semitic Jeremy Corbyn fella, else the UK would be as bad as in Ireland! /s /s /sss
