using state power to persecute fascists is bad πŸ˜”

[–] Pastaguini@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I mean, it kind of is when they’re being persecuted for something that can apply to already marginalized people in this country instead of being persecuted for being fascist.

[–] OrionsMask@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

It's already happening to marginalised people though. Why are we drawing the line at Musk?

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 days ago

using state power to persecute immigrants is good though, i'm conflicted.

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 45 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I mean it would be bad if they deported him to South Africa. I wouldn't want to inflict him on them. They should deport him to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean instead.

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He wants to go to Mars, doesn't he? I have a very funny idea.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Launch him with the next batch of starlink satellites.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago

Like that dumb livestream of his Tesla in space but instead it’s his corpse flailing around

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think the mariana trench is lovely this time of the year

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago

I hear that there's lots of Marinara sauce in there!! Musk will love it!

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

He can live in exile on Mars

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 37 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Musk is going to become the Dem candidate for presidency in 2032, isn't he?

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 17 points 3 days ago

Musk/Cheney 2028

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Not unless they change/ignore the constitution. Musk was born in South Africa so he isn't eligible.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It makes him the perfect candidate for the dems though, they can run him and then the republicans can just declare him ineligible so the democrats automatically lose. Bam! All the benefit of funding and donations, 0 actual risk of needing to actually "govern"

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yeah plus it'd be funny to watch Musk lose an election.

SHOW US THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think a wrinkle on that whole saga that isn't discussed often enough is that while Obama was born in the US, McCain objectively was not.

[–] edge@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Except none of it even mattered because both were born to US citizens.

Plus now they want to get rid of jus soli, so where Obama was born would matter even less.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

I actually think it does matter that the white guy objectively failed the standard by which people began a years long whisper campaign against the black guy

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago

Newsom/Musk 2028

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

In situations like this the best opinion to have is this one

kind-vladimir-ilyich "The kind Vladimir Ilyich would have shot everybody here."

[–] DivineChaos100@hexbear.net 24 points 3 days ago

Fake, no condemnation of Hamas

[–] Lavender@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago

Yes, won't someone help the world's richest man?!

Like come on. I think there are other more vulnerable people out there who don't own a social media platform.

[–] RaisedFistJoker@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago

owen jones changed his twitter handle from ownejones84 to owenjonesjourno. In my heart i truly believe this was because people called him owenjones88

[–] SamotsvetyVIA@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

rightoids discover critical support

[–] miz@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

iirc Owen Jones has been very sus on Palestine in the past

[–] footfaults@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Very telling what Democrats decide to get off their asses to defend

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Owen Jones is british IIRC, not really a dem.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago

Owne Jones is such a spineless hack

I mean, it's not like he or we are going to cry over deportation of a fascist just for disagreeing with other fascists, but it is an extremely bad power for the US government to feel able to exercise, that can be used en masse against leftists, too.

Further normalising deportations is only a good idea to fascists (and maybe accelerationists). Not saying anybody should sacrifice anything or go marching for melon-musk, but a principled opposition to it isn't the worst or most impractical stance.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

I always see this precedent argument whenever fascists do something to other fascists, but the US government doesn’t need precedent to act against leftists. There is no point in defending one of the most odious and evil people alive against the machine he helped put into overdrive. They are coming after leftists regardless of whether or not they successfully deport Musk. If they can’t deport him they aren’t going to just throw up their hands and go β€œwelp looks like we can’t go after the left now that the world’s richest fascist bought his way out of trouble”. I guess this sounds harsh but in my view this is just one step removed from liberals who think they can cast spells against the state using legalisms.

Counterpoint: This is extremely funny and should happen

Where I'm coming from is: he's not the first, he won't be the last, where's the outage for the people who aren't shitheel billionaires? Yes, I want to live in a country where people don't get deported for political reasons, but we already don't live in one of those, so it's funny that it might affect musk, one of the few people who I actually, truly wish suffering on.

[–] porcupine@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 3 days ago

counterpoint: billionaires aren't people, and we shouldn't treat them as though they are.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

Musk can fight his own battles, he's a billionaire. Any shred of attention given to "defending" him is being denied many people millions of times more vulnerable.

Also, whatever victory he might win will be neatly carved out to only apply to people like him. His victory would not actually help us.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

the best I can say for him is he gets to wait in line behind the millions of other people he helped condemn

[–] edge@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He threatened Mamdani first, but Owen didn’t have a problem until he threatened Musk?

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

can mamdani finance guardian singlehandedly? didn't think so

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

What if Based Elon buys the gold Trump Card for 5 million?

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago

Owen Jones can join him on an exploding rocket.

Unleash the eyup lovely

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

tromp GET HIM OUT! Folks, he's gotta go!

Nah, no it doesn't. Deport his ass to Guantanamo.

He can go free once the rest do too.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago

I mean sure but he goes last in line and can deal with whatever defense trickles down onto him when the non-monsters are all protected

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

It costs zero fucking dollars just to shut your mouth and not pipe up, a lesson Owen hasn't learned
