I thought Columbus was from Ohio

[–] CupcakeOfSpice@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago

So is Zohran's "hate" just, like... winning the primary?

[–] shallot@hexbear.net 90 points 1 week ago (1 children)

we will not be mocked

yea I bet this will help with that lol

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 76 points 1 week ago (3 children)

From their website:

Despite our contributions; the very culture we celebrate and our proud heritage is under attack. The Italian-American Civil Rights League (“IACRL”) celebrates our culture, while vehemently defending our history. This means celebrating Christopher Columbus, who discovered America and vowing to oppose those seeking to destroy his name and reputation.

Was it really Columbus that was there first or is it someone else that had their culture erased and their history rewritten? thonk

lol

  • he was working for the spaniards
  • italy didn't even exist as a country
  • there were a bunch of people already living there
  • he wasn't even the first euro to "discover" it, the vikings got there like 500 years before

italian-am*rican hero

Columbus sure didn’t discover america but he sure was the first Italian to be celebrated by WASPs

[–] CarbonScored@hexbear.net 36 points 1 week ago

Still waiting to hear who came over from North America and discovered Europe. Am I living on an undiscovered continent still?

i genuinely fail to understand the columbus crew, like zionists get stolen land out of blatantly supporting genocide, idk wtf anyone gains from dying on a hill for that one guy who was so shit at navigating he thought he was on a different continent and then proceeded to kill and enslave thousands and kickstart the largest genocide in human history. i guess a political bloc for the organizers?

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 40 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Columbus was diefied for the sake of italian-american pride. Change Columbus day to “Italian-American day” and I bet they stop caring about him in less than 10 years.

[–] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago (10 children)

there has to be another italian guy to deify in place of columbus

"You are out there stroking your d**k over the Columbus statue, I am trying to keep Chicago police officers from being shot and you are trying to get them shot," ~~Lightfoot~~Mamdani allegedly said on a Zoom call, according to Smyrniotis' complaint. "My d**k is bigger than yours and the Italians, I have the biggest d**k in Chicago."

The Italian-American Civil Rights League (IACRL) was originally formed as a political advocacy group created in New York City in April 1970. William Santoro, a defense attorney that represented many Colombo crime family figures, was responsible for the legal work that incorporated the league. Its stated goal was to combat pejorative stereotypes about Italian-Americans, but in actuality, it operated as a public relations firm to deny the existence of the American Mafia and improve the image of mobsters. In 2023, a new organization formed with the same name, but with no connection to the original IACRL. [1] [2]

lmao scrolling through the poster until you're met with israeli flags instead of italian ones is so goofy. not even hiding it

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago

A 30 minute lunch break protest of a guy who isn't even in office yet

Yup.

Sounds about white

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 29 points 1 week ago

Brain meltingly stupid.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

If anyone needed any evidence that protests are useless, keep in mind this kind of thing happens just about every weekend.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

lmao what

be funny to see how many of them actually turn up to a protest entirely sold on the point of "he flipped the bird at a statue"

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

Is it wrong of me to want to be a counterprotester for this?

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

Everything the chuds and libs are doing is making Zohran more popular, in the same identical but mirror fashion to Trump 2015/2016

The more they clutch their pearls and engage in these ACTUAL examples of hyper sensitive "political correctness", the more Zohran's image is elevated and the more apathetic voters he attracts

[–] TheRogueKitten@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Reminder: The Italian American Civil Rights League has extensive ties to La Cosa Nostra (The Mafia) in particular the Colombo family.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The Colombo family sounds cool. I like the little detective guy with the cigar who always talks about his wife's hobbies
