"ties into his admin's health push" it's still soda you buffoons

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago

I love that citations-needed-ass way of rephrasing "RFK's brainworm told him this is healthy"

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

The administration has now mandated smoking but banned filterless cigarettes

(CW: Carnist joke)

spoilerI'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the crunch of these healthy beef-tallow-fried potato chips

Why the hell did they go with India as the example? Americans are way more likely to be familiar with Mexican coca-cola that’s made with sugar than Indian coca-cola. Hell, on the east coast we get Kosher for Passover coca-cola with cane sugar.

[–] WIIHAPPYFEW@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because the site’s FROM India lmfao

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

Oh you’re right, my brain saw the style and mistook the FP for FB and thought it was a Forbes article.

Who the fuck decided that high fructose corn syrup was not KfP?

Or is it a product of a fermentation process that takes more than a few hours?

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Mexican coke mostly uses corn syrup now, right? Like the "Mexican coke" they sell in US grocery stores has cane sugar but the domestic Mexican stuff usually doesn't

[–] TrashGoblin@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

It must vary by region or store. The Mexican Coke at my local is all sugar.

As much as I dislike Trump, I wholly approve of him randomly fucking over corn farmers.

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 35 points 2 days ago

uses different type of sugar what are we, a bunch of asians?

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump is the embodiment of eating a greasy ass meal high in salt and carbs and ordering a diet coke with it.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago

I'll keep drinking that garbage

They really, really thought as hard as they could for a "dirty brown people country" to attach this too, didn't they? Couldn't of said that it'll be like the coke in Australia, or Europe, or much of the world, had to specifically invoke racist imagery about India here, because of course they did.

EDIT: Apparently this is an Indian newspaper, which makes a lot more sense for why they would mention India. Turns out I was the real racist all along or something. deeper-sadness

Brazil export half of the world sugar cane and you started a ego fight last week and now you want to make coke with real sugar? I'm having difficulties to trust the plan JDPON Don

[–] regul@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This has to crater the price of sweet corn, right?

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Bunch of corn magnates jumping into industrial combines as we speak

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

This might actually turn out to be healthy - by increasing the cost of soda and reducing the amount people drink. Corn is subsidized to shit in a way that sugar aint.

[–] BoxedFenders@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Mexico has the highest rate of Coca-Cola (and soda overall) consumption in the world so it must not make an impact on affordability. And for those who think cane sugar is healthier- Mexico has a higher rate of diabetes than the US.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 6 points 2 days ago

Since the Nestlé and Coca cola companies monopolized the sources of clean drinkable water, the only source of drinkable water in Mexico is sometimes a soda...."Una sodita compa?

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

Yeah the diabetes rates in the region of Chiapas and the neighboring region of Guatemala are so bad. And the people in the region are often chock full of Mayan ancestry if not literally calling themselves Maya and speaking their ancient dialects and barely speaking Spanish 500 years after Cortes. The aftershocks of the colonialism run deep.

[–] hankthetankie@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

Might start on it again if they add the coke. The leaves are just not the same

Mexico is the largest exporter of raw cane sugar

From Avocado Cartels to Cane Sugar Cartels

My question is always, why do people continue to drink this shit? The next time you have it in your mouth, take the time to actually taste it; it's syrupy nothingness. There is a reason all their commercials show people rapidly gulping it down.

[–] facow@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

Doesn't matter I'll still keep drinking that garbage

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Sometimes when you eat something spicy enough, it can make certain sodas taste really metallic.

[–] TommyBeans@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

Put the sugar back in Diet Coke while you’re at it

Trump finally doing a good thing? Crazy

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago
