"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

What is "biometric data"?

Employees that were assigned as AI tutors were instructed to sign release forms granting xAI “a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, sub-licensable, royalty-free license” to use, reproduce, and distribute their faces and voices,

According to the [Wall Street] Journal, some employees balked at the demand, concerned that their faces or likeness could be sold to other companies or used in deepfake videos. The employees were put off by the chatbot’s sexual demeanor and its likeness to a waifu. But they were told that the collection of their data was “a job requirement to advance xAI’s mission.”

Visa, Mastercard, discover, observe, they’re selling sex. Unwilling sex by proxy, at that. Kill twitter. Please use your powers for good.

Run by a scumbag, the outcome was predictable.

Hell, it was a scumbag outfit before the current scumbag-in-chief took it over.

The nerve of this xAI employee to sit there 8 hours a day working at a company on a product that steals facial and voice data unconsensually. To then fucking chooses to sign the waiver giving xAI the right to use it. Then complain to the verge saying that it makes him uncomfortable.

Bro! You do this to other people for a living! You sit down for 8 hours a day and enable this.

Yeah. Like it’s horrible, but I’m not going to be super upset if an abuser walks down the street and gets jumped. If you can do it to others you should be able to take it, too.

Is this how I learn there's yet another thing Elon Musk/Melon Husk/Long Muskrat is trying, and failing, to get everyone to call "x"?
