You know who you are. You don't wanna have to pull the whole machine apart and split the pump do you?

[–] Stache_@lemmy.ml 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Belly button’s all clear! Thanks for the reminder

[–] MidnightPocket@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Christ. I share this struggle.

[–] abc@hexbear.net 31 points 2 months ago (2 children)

why the hell aren't you cleaning your lint filter after every load of laundry it takes 15 seconds am i insane for doing it this way??

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I dunno why I wrote lint filter tbh, the one I fucked up was the drain pump filter on the washing machine.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

the drain pump filter on the washing machine

The what now

[–] SeducingCamel@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The little door on the bottom left of front loading washing machines that I've been ignoring for months

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Is it only front loading? We have a top loading washing machine and usually i'll read manuals about stuff but it came with the house...

[–] Kosh@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

I got yelled at when I forgot and now I don’t even have a dryer.

[–] AFineWayToDie@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Dryer lint is great for starting campfires.

Or normal fires. I'm not gonna tell you how to enjoy fire.

[–] MineDayOff@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

Stuff it into toliet paper rolls and you got a longer burning quick fire starter

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Clean your dishwasher's trap too

[–] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago (4 children)

See this is how it starts. "Clean your drier filter." then it's "clean your dishwasher trap" then it's "Clean your drains" then it's "clean your toilet." Now you're just cleaning everything endlessly. That's how they get you. The screw tightens and everyone just goes along with it.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago

Oh fuck, thank you for reminding me to tighten the screw

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago

Clean behind your ears.

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

TIDY YOUR ROOM BUCKOS

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago

yeah wtf the only dishwasher trap around here is me

[–] darkmode@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

bonus tip (especially if you have a front loader) drain the excess reservoir or whatever it’s called. your washing machine may not be able to drain all the water it used and has a separate unconnected drain hose.

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

water stays in the machine when it stops because the drain pump doesn't succ it dry.

there's usually a small secondary hose to manually drain from the lowest point.

imo it'd be overkill to drain it like that every time, pretty sure you'd only do that before servicing it.

but my qualifications are that I let the machine fully clog before I realised there was a filter to clean, so I'm probably not an authority on the subject.

When I moved in we had a tech come out to fix something and she said once a month is recommended. Can prevent stinky clothes.

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

unscented detergent also prevents stinky clothes

[–] christian@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

That explains it, I've been using the stinky detergent the whole time.

I like cleaning the lint trap because it's soft and warm

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

yeah same. I'd never skip the lint trap. but washing machines have a much courser filter to stop coins and shit going into the drain pump and that can get blocked and then your machine starts to rust and you don't notice until your clothes come out with rust stains on them.

very-smart

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I thought this was about my belly button (lint gets in there a lot for some reason)

[–] Stache_@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago

Haha dang ya beat me to it

[–] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

How about I make a site that charges you a subscription and every month clean lint filters are delivered directly to your door. That way you can just throw out the old one and replace it with a clean new one.

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I haven’t done laundry since I last cleaned it. Back up a couple steps, please, the clothes on the ~~“not actually dirty” chair~~floor need attention first.

[–] sexywheat@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

The floor is the biggest shelf very-smart

[–] hexthismess@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

It's literally a 5 sec swipe and toss. Plus don't you want to judge how linty the new towels are?

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Are you talking about the washing machine?

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago
[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

I bought a flexy brush that I super love, and a long skinny boi attachment for my vacuum cleaner. That fucker is clean as fuck. Or it was. Probably need to do it again.

[–] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

You mean my belly button?

What lint filter? We don't commonly have dryers here. Have I got a metaphorical mountain of lint building up in abstract dimensions?
