Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

A billion-dollar company should have no problem supporting real artists for real art.

Yes, they have. The problem is called capitalism.

After Tim Sweeney's dickhead-level outcry about games being labeled if they have AI, does this surprise anyone?

I wish I knew a way to make the fact that AI generated content doesn't qualify for copyright more painful to corporations

It's fucking Fortnite. It was already full of slop. Now they can just generate it faster.

One more reason to never play that crap again

Art has never really been valued in our system unless it proves some marketing benefit to get people to buy the product. Many people don't spend a significant amount of money on art. In our late stage capitalist system, corporations absolutely will use whatever technology they can do avoid paying, which is why we're seeing demand break down.

Since when did video games get "seasons"?

[–] WallsToTheBalls@lemmynsfw.com 7 points 3 months ago

For like… a decade or more now?

It's a live service thing. I think the term popped up in 2019 with the modern warfare remake, but the concept's been around for a while. Googled it

Ah. I've more heard the mention of a season as when a game or installment is released during the year. Like, "This season's Battletoads...". Not that a game's iteration was called a season. The more you know I guess.

Kids today probably have never played a finished game, lol

Its a ploy to suck em dry, keep them addicted, then scrap it all when shiny new thing comes in. As its always been, but its far worse now and only getting worse.
