Saw this toot today too. Only now realized it’s from 10 months ago

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I always forget they’re called toots. “Just tooting into the wind” sounds so cute. Significantly better than “lighting up a cross for no one.”

[–] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 16 points 1 week ago

I like it because in some places it’s a common euphemism for fart that’s only used unironically by young children, so every time I hear it the twelve-year-old in me gets another cameo.

To be fair, Mozilla has done quite some stupid shit in the last decade or so. Remember when they killed all addons with version 57?

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I have been mad at Mozilla since they released v29 and ruined the UI 15 years ago

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Mozilla has been kinda stupid since the browser was also called Mozilla.

Does mastadon legitimately believe that the word toot, in regards to its posts, is mass marketable?

Holy shit thats stupid.

yeah i just pissed it out, ive got 3 million views on my piss.

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 2 points 6 days ago

Yeah, I do think it needs to be changed, though I don't know to what. I don't personally mind it too much, but I want Mastodon to succeed, and I just can't picture legitimately telling people in a serious conversation about a toot I just tooted.

Please point me to the piss themed social media. I’ve got lots of piss for other people to piss on.

Point me to the fart themed social media

How is it any more stupid than a tweet? That was pretty mass marketable, I would say.

[–] Iteria@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Because tweet never had any negative connotations before Twitter took it on. It's the sound a bird makes. Toot is slang for farting which doesn't have the greatest associations. It's also like skeet for blue sky. I get why the owners wouldn't want a word that has a whole and common on their platform community that knows that word as slang for ejaculation.

[–] voracitude@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I'm four years old and I think it's funny. Also, "skeet" as slang for "blue sky"? I love it, you're a visionary, how do we make this happen?

[–] buttnugget@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

All of that nonsense is hilarious. Toot and skeet sound absolutely ridiculous. At least it’s amusing seeing people trying to make fetch happen.

Loved Waterfox's response. Downloaded it and set it as default browser. Absolutely do not want AI, just give me a good browser.

[–] peetabix@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

Going to give this a try, thanks.

[–] buttnugget@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Waterfox is not a good alternative. There was a whole thing a while back about privacy and the developer explicitly stated that he does not care about such things.

[–] AtariDump@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Can you provide a link to back up your claim?

Dick-hammering is the new enshittification

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 13 points 1 week ago

"it's like enshittification but also hammers your dick!"

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (6 children)

I’e been out of the loop, what happened?

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago

AI, wouldn’t you believe it? Mozilla’s drinking the kool-ade.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 20 points 1 week ago

mozilla saying they want shovel more and more AI as part of thier future development.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

New CEO is a AI shill.

[–] lvxferre@mander.xyz 14 points 1 week ago

Mozilla shoving AI into Firefox.

[–] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Oh no. I’d rather take a hammer to the dick.

[–] ricecake@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago

For a slightly less dramatic description: the person who's been in charge of Firefox is now the CEO of Mozilla. In an interview they detailed their vision which includes trying to get money in more ways than just making Google the default search engine, all of which involve growing the user base. He said that ignoring changes in technology doesn't benefit users or the Internet, and alluded to some previously announced features that are in progress for Firefox, including on device AI tools for things like alttext generation and translation, and upcoming features like an AI browsing window which has more integration with an AI including ones that aren't on the device depending on what the user selects.
He reiterated that user control of data and privacy remains their biggest selling point, so that has to remain the focus of whatever path they take.

They need to be more like steam: sit back and let everyone else fuck up.

And Brother printers.

2.7% market share.

As a comparison number, Linux's market share is around 4.7% right now.

[–] Cliff@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

Which browsers are used by linux users if not firefox or one of its forks? Even on windows firefox was always the first thing i installed.

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago

Chromium probably.

[–] AntEater@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 week ago

There is Chrome and many open source variants along with others.

[–] HackerJoe@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Many browsers have a Linux version (even Edge). IE only works under Wine though. And I think this Perplexity thing has no Linux version.

Most distros default to FF though, yeah.

Should've known from the get go, they called themselves fox and we let them sly bastard deceived us.

"Ice Weasel. Love is the everchanging spectrum of a lie."
