Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

He'll give it an unimaginative name like "the big beautiful boat".

[–] lando55@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 days ago

Beauty McBigBoat

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wait, it's floating.  Should a Trump class ship be floating?

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 32 points 5 days ago

But we already have dinghies.

[–] graycube@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago

The defense contractor doesn't really care if they are useless as long as they can drag out the construction contracts for decades and keep the gravy train flowing.

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 15 points 5 days ago

Might as well call it a dreadnought for all the value a battleship will have in modern naval combat.

[–] toast@retrolemmy.com 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Why aren't we naming appropriate things after him? Next new strain of syphilis, perfect.

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 days ago

Only if said strain is widespread amongst children.

[–] TheAlbatross@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'm curious to see what the Navy thinks a modern battleship should look like and do.

[–] bigfondue@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Just an oversized cruiser with a lot of missiles. All the missiles in one big juicy target. What could go wrong?

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

Mf can’t stop naming shit and can’t fix anything while America drowns in its own capitalistic sea of sharks.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

And they fall apart immediately.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 9 points 5 days ago

Most military equipment is crap as it is. The common misconception of "military-grade" being top-notch is actually bullshit.

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Let me guess, they're big piles of expensive, stinky shit

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

LOL! They're gonna be mothballed soon after he's gone, what do you want to bet?

Decomission central.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They won't even be built. He will just funnel a bunch of money to his defense contractor buddies.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 2 points 5 days ago

Just like the Great Wall down south he built very strongly.

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Actual battleships? How well will they fare against modern weapons?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah i thought battleships were obsolete haha just like the big orange man

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If he gets his way and makes them steam powered, probably not great.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I hate it so much that the steam powered thing is not satire.

Taco is really that stupid.

[–] keyhoh@piefed.social 6 points 5 days ago

Let's hope they have the same quality and integrity.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

Given the incompetence he surrounds himself with, this class will end up like the Wasa.

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What is it with extremist regimes and battleships?

[–] Kronusdark@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I’m sure it’s a penis thing.

[–] foodandart@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

Beat me to it..

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I wish it was but I’m convinced Trump is such a pussy he doesn’t even have an excuse for a penis.

[–] doc@sopuli.xyz 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Exclusive first look at renderings of Trump class warship.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] MOARbid1@piefed.social 3 points 5 days ago

Omfg, this is great! Thanks for the laugh, stranger!

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 2 points 5 days ago

Someone come up with a bingo card that has things still without his name on them. Won't take long to call a winner.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

I could see wanting to name one thing after myself if I were rich and famous, but naming multiple things after yourself starts to get obnoxious

[–] HeadfullofSoup@kbin.earth 2 points 5 days ago

First cheap gold-plated battleship in history

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Based on how many years it takes to build a battleship, Trump will be long gone before this brainfart is realized. Just more money pissed away do fuel his delusions of adequacy.
