2 passes. Bowl lather. Excellent shave.

Today was Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club day. Our soap this month is Woolly Wash Soapery's Night at the Pub. This is a maker from down under (rural Queensland) and to me, this soap is all about the soap base which is luxurious thanks to its sheep tallow base, butters, tussah silk and, in this one, beer.

The fragrance is a warm, sweet whisky with a little spice. WWS claims that the scent strength is medium, but for me it was mild. Perhaps that's due to working from a smush. It did not bother me, though, and I was still able to enjoy it. LumberJack Luxury has notes that complement Night at the Pub, so I finished the shave with that.

I was reminded of the MK № 10 when I saw @djundjila use it on Sunday. Terrific razor. It always surprises me with its balance and how well it shaves.

Thanks to @snooting for providing the smush. This was a fun one. Merry Christmas eve!

Today is the monthly meeting of the Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club (BVWSC), organized on https://sub.wetshaving.social/ and/or https://wetshav.ing/.

This month we're using Night at the Pub, sent to use by @snooting@wetshav.ing. The smush smelled a lot like clove, but after lathering it changed completely! It turned into more of a mulled wine scent to me -- very fitting for the season. The soap took some work to get enough loaded into this nice soft badger, but I'm sure it'd go faster with a synthetic or if I knew to go at it with more water. In the end I got a super nice result!

  • Razor: Blackland Sabre

  • Lather: Woolly Wash Soapery - Night at the Pub - Soap
  • Post Shave: Catie’s Bubbles - Dranks - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Stirling - Christmas Eve - EdT

For today's delayed meeting of BVWSC we're shaving with Night at the Pub from Woolly Wash Soapery -- an artisan out of Australia. Over the summer I helped organize a group buy from this artisan after they happened to wander into a weekly Deals/New Products thread on Reddit. It was a lot of work but totally worth it, I very much enjoy the few tubs I ended up with.

This soap in particular is perfect for this time of year: spicy, a little sweet, and super slick. It's a really nice sheep tallow base that gives me a great shave. The scent reminds me of the Pfeffernüsse cookies my wife and I make every holiday season. Spicy and delicious.

Have a nice Christmas Eve!

[–] DaveWave94@wetshav.ing 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I highly approve of the fact that you're making Pfeffernüsse with your wife. It's a fitting description of this scent. Thanks for the sample, this is a really good soap!

[–] snooting@wetshav.ing 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Baking Pfeffernüsse is one of my favorite holiday traditions. They’re so good!

And I’m glad you enjoyed the soap, it’s a really great base!

[–] DaveWave94@wetshav.ing 1 points 5 hours ago

Baking Plätzchen (Christmas cookies in different tastes and shapes) is similar over here, I only do it with my parents - but their house is filled with this sweet, familiar smell.

The soap is indeed very enjoyable, slickness for days! Especially great for head shaving. Woolly Wash Soapery gets the (bald) seal of approval from me 👍🏻

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I really enjoyed this soap base. It's hard to beat sheep tallow. And while there are others with similar top-tier bases, I love supporting the little guy. If they are around next summer, I'm in for a group buy. I'm sure I'll need more soap by then 🤣

[–] snooting@wetshav.ing 2 points 6 hours ago

Glad you enjoyed it! You’re right that it’s all about the base with this soap.

I think you’d really enjoy Outback from them.

  • Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
  • Lather: Woolly Wash Soapery - A Night At The Pub
  • Post Shave: OAM - Dolce Vita ASB gel

2-pass head shave, really smooth and comfortable.

Today it's Christmas Eve and what better time to shave with a gifted soap?! For BVWSC we're using a soap by an artisan that's totally unfamiliar to me - I've never heard of Wooly Wash Soapery before. The generous sample was provided by @snooting@sub.wetshaving.social - Thanks again!

"A Night at the Pub" has some interesting notes of bourbon, oak, fruit cake, bay leaves. For me the bay notes are very dominant and it reminds me of german gingerbread, "Lebkuchen". So it's very season appropriate IMHO. The soap was quick and rather easy to lather, I was pleasantly surprised. It has pretty good primary and residual slickness and the lather had a nice shine to it. The scent strength was on the medium side, not too cloying and not too faint. My razor glided nicely through it...

~~I'll probably provide further details soon, I'm sitting at my break at the nursing home.~~ Further details: I love how everyone of us has some kind of fitting seasonal food or drink in mind when smelling this soap: Christmas sweets, Lebkuchen, Pfeffernüsse, mulled wine... as a german, I quite agree with snooting's Pfeffernüsse-adjacent smell. It probably fits even better than Lebkuchen/gingerbread. I'm honestly impressed by the soap, this was a very nice and smooth shave with terrific slickness. Thanks for this cool opportunity, snooting!

To everyone: Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to those who celebrate!

FYI, adding --- in your markdown makes the line above it into a Heading level 2 (see here https://www.markdownguide.org/basic-syntax/#alternate-syntax).

It doesn't bother me, but if you're interested in making your posts display better in the PieFed web front end, now you know! It doesn't seem to affect mobile apps or Lemmy, so it's just PieFed that respects that particular markdown code.

[–] DaveWave94@wetshav.ing 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Oof, thanks for the catch walden! I wasn't aware of that Markdown occurrence in PieFed, in Lemmy/Voyager app it adds a neat slim line below the SOTD. I'll avoid using it in the future. Merry Christmas to you & your family! 🎅🏻

[–] walden@wetshav.ing 2 points 7 hours ago

Merry Christmas!

I mentioned it to the PieFed developer because it doesn't seem like a standard markdown thing. Who knows!

The Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club met today. We're using A Night At The Pub, generously provided by @snooting@wetshav.ing. Coordination for this global event happens on the Wetshaving community in the Fediverse (PieFed and Lemmy).

This soap is fantastic. It made a very rich lather. I ended up with a comfortable BBS, all while floating in a boozy fruitcake cloud. I paired this with Floïd, thinking its orange note would link in with the fruitcake. Not a bad combination.

Now I'm hunting opportunities to acquire Woolly Wash Soapery (along with Bundubeard) soaps where I don't have to pay more than the soap in shipping. :)

Merry Christmas Eve!

Tridi 3 Nivôse an 234 de la Révolution, jour de Bitume

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic Bingcha (Iced Tea)
  • Razor: Man-Hoshi 24 (2)
  • Lather: Woolly Wash Soapery Night at the Pub
  • Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
  • Postshave: TFS Witch Hazel & Oak
  • Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm

This is the December installment of the Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club. The scent was bay-rummy to me, and seemed highly appropriate for this time of the year. The lather did not explode in the bowl as other US-artisan soaps use to do, but it produced a serviceable lather. I was asthonished that the second ingredient was beer 🍻

I used for the first time the asymmetric razor – I used it like it was a standard symmetric one, and that was probably not a good idea. I will have to check how such razors are supposed to be used, when you shave yourself.

Happy Christmas to everybody!

I "ain't no expert" (as we Americans say), but I think using a slant razor in the same way you use a standard one gives you the benefit of the "Gillette Slide" (slicing motion) without the need to actually slide across the face. Merry Christmas! Hope it is a good one for you.
