A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Real braving standing up against... generated witches. smh.

Seriously though there are real problems with "AI": surveillance, genocide, ethnic cleansing, etc.

Why banned? Something else? This is a weak post but not bannable IMO.

I can't believe they have so many communities. It'd be one thing if it was different media, like how normal people might have a "painting" and a "photography" community, but it's not. It's all one big pile of generated images, and they've sorted it by subject... How weird is that!

Anyway, yeah glad it's not clogging up your feed anymore. I think that mod went into powertrippingbastards a few weeks ago and commented some nonsense bragging about how they block and ban anyone who downvotes their spam so hopefully we can all get conveniently added to the banlist.

Every hobby/fandom does this and I don't think it's related to AI in this case. I've blocked like 27 different versions of scantily-clad-anime-girl-pics communities. Listen to people argue over metal genres or even music genres in general. People really into things tend to go pretty niche with the communities.

I think I disagree; I know the trope about metal fans and music genres etc, but I would argue that having a "trance" community and a "classic rock" community is fine because it's the same medium, sort of, in as much as it is all "music", but its very different and not just because of the subject.

If the music communities were like "lovesongs", "happysongs", "sadsongs", "angrysongs" etc, I think that would be closer to what this batch of AI spam communities are. Or maybe if it was a community for the key a song is in, like "songsing", "songsina" etc

This is just the tip of the iceberg, if you sort by new you can find dozens of these communities. The AI Tech Bros can just keep churning out slop faster than anybody else.

Fuck yeah, how can I acquire this kind of ban streak?

I do, I also block the users, but not before downvoting.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hope you didn’t got banned for just downvoting.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope I did and I hope they continue to make it easier to avoid slop in the feed going forward.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 23 points 2 days ago

Odds are very high you were banned for down voting, as the mod has automated the process to ban anyone who down votes but doesn't comment and applies the ban to all their shitty AI communities.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 5 points 2 days ago

The block community option on the pages go away, so you have to block them on the back end.

Tedious and annoying.

[–] cron@feddit.org 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It appears you were already blocked six month ago due to "vote manipulation".

I get that you don't like Image AI communities, but why not just block these communities?

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What's vote manipulation? I imagine he didn't take a burlap sack full of votes and buried it in the middle of a forest.

[–] teft@piefed.social 37 points 1 day ago

The nutjob mod on those communities claims anyone downvoting without commenting or being a member of his slop communities is manipulating votes.

Different instances. Left .today because I was seeing hexbear posts. Left .world because I asked the admins about the banner supporting horrible people's salary and they said they support those people's salary.

I've never automated any voting, I just downvote when I see something I don't like.
