So, ICE is scared that aggressive untrained people will use deadly force against them, and that afterwards the government will do nothing about it?

That's pretty much how everybody else has felt about ICE for a long time.

(The Halfway Post is a satire website)

[–] Naich@lemmings.world 105 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

What's the fucking point in doing satire these days?

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 26 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

We all cope in our own ways. This post is an amazing example of how we are not immune to propaganda, so... at least there's that?

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

This post is an amazing example of how we are not immune to propaganda

This post isn't propaganda, though, so it's not that amazing of an example.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (5 children)

Yeah and if this openly and unabashedly satirical post was still being treated like legit reporting, imagine how people must react to actual propaganda.

I wasn't criticising the satirist, more the world that is making satire impossible to differentiate from fact.

That pig was was recording while reaching for his gun, it looks like that video was meant as a trophy.

Guys, The Halfway Post is a satire website. "America's #1 source for Dada news". Lotta people eating the onion in this comment section.

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 80 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Satire is dead. It couldn't keep up with reality.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

"Ceci n'est pas un onion"

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 28 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Mate, have you read the news in the last months, with special attention to the first days of this year? I understand it's satire and it's not real, but right now, people are having a really hard time to distinguish satire from real news.

Breaking: ICE is afraid that Americans will start exercising their second amendment rights to protect their first and fourth amendment rights from a tyrannical pedofile protecting uncontrolled secret police

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 68 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

That's why civilization exists you dumb fucks. You start tearing it down and violence is all that's left.

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Eh, can't say I agree with Thomas Hobbes on this. ICE is acting in the exact opposite of the state of nature, they're the violent arm of the sovereign

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's a blatant misunderstanding of what a Hobbesian sovereign is. According to Hobbes, a sovereign is a form of body politic derived from the consent of the governed. People form civilizations, understanding that by abiding by common agreements they can mutually improve the conditions and circumstances of their lives. Everyone is safer when we agree not to kill each other, and anyone who violates that norm loses the protection of the social contract. Hence, capital punishment as a penalty for murder.

What ICE is doing is violating the social contract and acting without the consent of the governed (bypassing congressional approval/oversight, ignoring established laws and constitutional rights, etc.). In effect, they're regressing us back to the conditions of the state of nature in which "might makes right" and "survival of the fittest," conditions which the social contract originated in order to overcome.

[–] kureta@lemmy.ml 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That Goebbels-looking-ass dude literally said "might makes right" on a live TV interview.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 11 points 3 weeks ago

Which is why I won't feel any sympathy for him when someone finally gives him his comeuppance

ICE was the reason why I did not visit the US. Now it is ICE and the unbelievable violation of privacy at the border.

The collection of biometrics all over the world that went from being something you needed at least serious suspicion of to being extremely common and routine for literally everything is just shit.

[–] musubibreakfast@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago

Exactly this, I was supposed to be in the US for work. I had everything prepared and then this shit show started.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 43 points 3 weeks ago

It's almost as if they're projecting since they know that it's standard practice for them to jump in front of moving vehicles so they have an excuse to open fire and claim self defense.

They're literally accusing people of what they have been doing for at least a decade now.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 3 weeks ago

Well, they should be worried.

[–] Fleur_@aussie.zone 33 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I seriously doubt you're making it to the jury stage of the trial if you open fire on police

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 32 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Renee Good didn't open fire on police and still didn't make it to a jury trial. When unarmed, peaceful people are executed as though they're violent protesters, there's no longer any real reason to be unarmed, peaceful people.

This federal government wants people to open fire on police. This would justify a further police state, martial law, and cancelling the midterm elections that they're definitely on pace to lose disastrously. Natural causes is taking its sweet time, but even if it weren't I don't think the next guy would change a thing unless his owners told him to.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Protesters also don’t deserve to be executed

We should call it the Good Initiative

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 27 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Your constitution means nothing it seems people in power wipe their arses with it and citizens barely defend it handing over more and more freedoms every year. Ice clearly isn't about that they sold it to you as.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

If they're just shooting random moms in minivans then nobody is safe.

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (6 children)

Well yeah that's kind of how rules and laws are supposed to work.

That's kind of the entire purpose of having a system of government. If a government doesn't exist to protect the people who pay for it, what's the point of it even existing?

Pretty sure the people intentionally destroying the U.S. are aware of that, but it's always kind of a head scratcher to learn the people that are carrying out their orders have been so busy goose-stepping and commiting crimes on their behalf, they haven't really picked up on it.

I'm really not sure why I have to explain to other adults that we all benefit as a society from a system that promotes equality and protects the majority from harm and exploitation.

When you help these people in their never ending war on equality, you're helping to further cement a system of government that enables exploitation and removes any expectation of protection for the majority.

That is what you're working towards on behalf of a billionaire class. A world where they're protected by the system, but we're all expendable, including you. That is what people mean when they call you class traitors. If that term offends you it's probably because you're not understanding or recognizing your own exploitation.

You've handed over civil rights and civil liberties for the "freedom" to participate in a caste system which protects an overclass you will never be part of. Your sole purpose in the system is to help keep them propped up above the rest of society by enforcing their rules and acting as cannon fodder that serves to insulate them from the rest of the masses.

Mudsill theory is the proposition that there must be, and always has been, a lower class or underclass for the upper classes and the rest of society to rest upon. The term derives from a mudsill, the lowest threshold that supports the foundation for a building. The theory was first articulated by James H. Hammond, a Democratic United States senator from South Carolina and a wealthy Southern plantation owner, in a speech on March 4, 1858. Hammond argued that every society must find a class of people to do menial labor, whether called slaves or not, and that assigning that status on a racial basis followed natural law, while the Northern United States' social class of white wage laborers presented a revolutionary threat. Mudsill theory and similar rhetoric has been dubbed "the Marxism of the Master-Class" which fought for the rights of the propertied elite against what were perceived as threats from the abolitionists, lower classes and non-whites to gain higher standards of living

ICE officials worried citizens may treat them the same way they treat people. Welcome to bizarro land.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 20 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This may be satire but it does really capture that casual assumption they seem to share that everyone else has the same lust for violence that they do. Most people have to be pushed pretty far to even consider violence, especially lethal violence. For them it seems like every conflict is an opportunity to violently escalate and prove their strength.

Yes every ice/police vehicle is considered hostile.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 18 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I just signed up for a basic self defense class. I figure the chances of an honest to God civil war breaking out have now risen into whole numbers. Thanks, assholes.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 15 points 3 weeks ago

Hey, only we're allowed to use that excuse! -cops

[–] lepinkainen@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (7 children)

GOOD!

Every American should get a gun right now just to make them afraid.

Don’t advertise on social media, just buy it.

Store it disassembled, but get some ammo. This way you can put it back together but they can’t claim you were armed if they come in with a no-knock warrant. Kinda hard if your pistol is in 17 separate bits in a locked case.

What this will do is show statistics of gun ownership go up in blue states.

I can't see how any reasonable jury would convict.

That's either a violent thug that believes they cannot be held accountable for anything they do. Or it's someone PRETENDING to be that ICE agent and hoping to benefit from that same lack of accountability. In either case, your life is at risk if you let them get close.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 weeks ago

Ah yes, the totally unpredictable consequences of one's incredibly stupid actions.

[–] RDAM_Whiskers@lemmy.ml 11 points 3 weeks ago

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

Turns out abusing power and oppression law abiding citizens claiming they have no rights has consequences. Who would have thought.
