A petition calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump has garnered more than 90,000 signatures.

At the time of writing, the petition, organized by the non-partisan group Blackout The System, has been signed by 90,985 people—leaving it less than 10,000 signatures shy of 100,000.

The petition accuses Trump of "greed, corruption, and a lack of accountability in leadership," "exploitation of the American people," and claims Trump has "repeatedly violated" the U.S. Constitution and mismanaged the economy.

"This petition calls on all Americans to come together, to make our voices heard, and to demand the impeachment of Donald Trump," it says.

Carlos Álvarez-Aranyos, founder of American Opposition, which partnered with Blackout the System, told Newsweek: “Impeachment, conviction, and removal is the healthiest pathway to ending this nightmare, as it removes the fascist regime while reasserting the power of our Constitution. Our system was built to deal with threats like Donald Trump. Our current failure is human. We need our representatives to wake up and use the tools the Founders gave them to save our republic before it’s too late.”

Newsweek reached out to the White House via email for comment outside of normal business hours.

If it gets 100k signatures, Trump HAS to resign. We did it.

edit: Also, I fucking knew it. Look at the linkedin of the only guy they name: https://www.linkedin.com/in/calvarezaranyos/details/experience/

He graduated from George Washington University, worked as PR for the military, then followed it up doing crisis PR for "private, public, and non-profit sector clients, including White House staff, Cabinet appointees, elected officials, political candidates, corporate executives, and non-profit leaders". That crisis PR job lasted until 2020 so he was doing it during COVID for Trump. His certifications include being a certified yachtsman by the government of Monaco, which he got while doing NGO work there and in Lebanon.

The only way to save democracy is to listen to a spy who got us to this point by lying to the public every time the military or government did something terrible.

still doing pr for the us. but i would bet money most of the people on this petition would eat his story up

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh yeah, they'd love his story. I've just been mulling over the idea of doing Washington DC crisis PR for the entirety of the 2010s. Every single crisis he could have lied to us about is cartoonishly evil, and they were all legitimised by demons like this playing devil's advocate. It's the worst kind of Guy to be behind one of these astroturfed babyprotests, outside of another Graham Platner Good Mercenary.

i don't think it's possible to make something like this without being that Guy. signing a petition to defeat fascism and make the usa Good again is the sort of thing aaron sorkin would get 4 million treatlers to do

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

That doesn't mean it couldn't work. If Hexbear got 100k signatures for a revolution, the US government would HAVE to respond.

You're wearing blue. I trust you. I'm going to use all of my energy to try to kick that ball. Do not do what you did last time or I will write you an email.

Impeachment, conviction, and removal […] removes the fascist regime

I left a tooth under my pillow and Bigfoot came down the chimney and left me $100,000.

Yes we had impeachment 1, and impeachment 2, but what about third impeachment?

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

That's one impeachment away from bingo if you use the free space. He's finished.

why are we impeaching him again? what happens when you do that in the reality we live in? hasn't he been impeached like 30 times?

You better. The only way we can get the John Fettermans and Kyrsten Sinemas of the 2030s is to spend the 2020s voting blue no matter who. This is the most important election of our lifetimes.

I wonder how many of the lists of names/emails that go on these petitions end up getting resold to advertisers?

[–] calidris@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

All of them

Me, signing my real name on the petition to depose the catty, vindictive hamburger with absolute control of the hamburger police. For my next act, I'm writing a strongly worded letter to the Queen of Hearts.

when jd vance becomes president he will surely end fascism forever
