Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

Never been to America, but am I seeing this right, people just wake up to the news "your entire ruling class that has spent its entire existence exploiting you and destroying the world are also CSAer all of them" then just go on with their day, meanwhile we in Military Dictatorship in Africa" are expected to behead our leader because of corruption or some bullshit???

Trump being racistTrump depicted the Obamas as monkeys...

Truthfully baffles me that many of my family members can stand behind this guy.

The thing I truly despise is the self hating black people especially from this continent that always come interfere because nothing is beneath them. For example in this one they will use flowy language to say dumbfuck shit like "this is a post modernist critique of the behavior of..... Change mentality and........ Maybe then we will no longer be called this if....." man shut the fuck up maybe if your moms aborted and I bet she wishes she did we wouldn't be plagued with oxygen thieves. They think they are better but they are exactly the mentality of the corrupt politicians that fuck things up on this continent for their own gains. They just have a different grift language

[–] 3rdWorldCommieCat@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Racists and the self-hating poc who support them are one of the best arguments for abortion fr.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I fucking despise them. Their ideals and their flawed reasoning always fucking leads to the same place and thats ethnic cleansing. Every fucking time. Mfs were lib brained into thinking these worms have anything of value to debate when all they will end up pushing is horrora like gaza or rwanda. I'm old and I've seen this play out over and over and over again which is why I get mad with rage thinking about it. Wtf do people who sealion over trans people existing want? What do people who point to X country that is struggling with derogatory terms want to do? They never offer solution but I know exactly what the fuck they want.

[–] 3rdWorldCommieCat@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They want someone to hate and blame all their problems on and instead of pointing to the correct target (capitalism and those that work to maintain it) the propaganda has made them turn on those even more vulnerable then them who they should support and show solidarity towards. I'm in my mid 20s and ever since I was a teen and started down the communist rabbit hole have noticed this, can't imagine people who've been around much longer than me. It never gets easier.

I spilled blood against colonialism so the youth don't have to. Now it looks like they may well end up having to again.

[–] 3rdWorldCommieCat@hexbear.net 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly? Yeah, it seems we are far from done and with a dying fascist empire trying to bring the rest of the world down with it it feels inevitable.

Latino children as old as 5 years old going to jail and doing trials before any Epstein associates is the most American thing

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not sure how much more Americans have to see to have the point of class solidarity in action than this. He and his administration continually talk about using ICE to go after pedos, sex traffickers, etc, and yet they've said absolutely nothing about going after anyone in the files. Obviously it'd be hypocritical for Trump to do so since he's just as intertwined in this shit as anyone else, but he went as far as to come out and defend Bill Clinton.

I'm not sure how this country continues on the path its on aside from most of the populace being the most propagandized in the world, whether they've somehow deluded themselves into thinking that there will be some justice or if their only way of understanding this is to spin convoluted theories around Satanism or w/e.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

People like yarvin float exterminating the poor... Which is the majority of em... Yet suggest taxing them and they take it personally. Its a confused populace. This is a mass delusion the likes of which the world has rarely seen and many people around the world caught the bug

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Well thank fuck. I'd be worried if he did like black folks. Problem is he still abused black girls. Lisa Phillips

Notorious child trafficker is also racist? I'll pretend to be shocked.

White "communists" who want the benefits of socialism while only dreaming of their individualist communes on native land are such a plague

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I remember cuckservatives posting that Botham Jean's brother hugging his brother's killer and it pissed me off because I know for em it ain't about the forgiveness etc... Its about subservience....because the same mfs said Botham deserved to die. Really these stupid games annoy me. Thats how I know shit won't be done with the Pretti murders. Its all a damn TV show to show many people

"We should do exactly what the people of [X country] want!"

Then people of X country they're talking about are the Hitler youth, Every Single Fucking Time.

Is there a word for the very specific type of sneering condescending tone and cadence with which white techbros lecture you? It's like boomer punctuation, hard to describe, but you know it when you see it. It's kind of like a mixture of "I'm not mad, I'm actually laughing" and Joseph Goebbels. See my comment yesterday w/r/t "FactandTheory". Don't want to link it here so as not to turn this into c/slop but so many reddit techbros are positively giddy at the idea of even their milquetoast liberal coworkers getting fired over being anti-ICE and it's full of this special ingredient. Techbros love bootlicking so much, that they think they are the ones with the boot and talk like they own the place. Had one lecturing me the other day on comparing ICE to nazis because it insults the memory of his holocaust survivor grandfather. No you cracker asshole, I think he would be much more upset at his grandson being a fascist-sympathizing dipshit.

Six figure salary and ego fuel and they think they're the capitalist's best buddy instead of their expensive designer dog that they'll ditch the second they tire of the upkeep. Can't believe this superiority complex still exists even though Learn2Code is dead and decomposing at this point. Something something lowest white man

Idk, patronization? Mansplain - no - whitesplaining?

Why do women wear burkas? Why hijabs? Are burkas a type of hijab? Idk where to read correct information on the topic.

Edit: Found cool facts:

What often goes unreported in the media is that Islam has historically championed women's rights. Women were granted the right to own property, choose their spouses, participate in public office, and pursue education—rights that were recognized by Islam long before they were embraced in the West. Islam promotes equality between men and women, abolishing practices like female infanticide and the treatment of women as property in 7th-century Arab society.

Throughout history, Muslim women have held influential positions as educators, healthcare professionals, warriors, and political leaders. Many Muslim-majority countries have elected women to high leadership roles, including female heads of state—an achievement yet to be realized in the United States.

[–] puppygirlpets@hexbear.net 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

the paragraph before the section you quoted:

Common stereotypes suggest that Muslim women are oppressed, deprived of basic human rights, and forced to wear coverings. However, many of the oppressive practices faced by Muslim women worldwide stem from cultural traditions rather than the religion itself. Similar repressive policies have historically affected women from all backgrounds and continue to persist today.

as happens in many places with many faiths religion is used as a tool by the ruling class to enforce patriarchy

[–] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What cultural traditions create what opressive practices against Muslim women? Where are they commonly practiced?

I just discovered the term Islamphobia, and that Britain still wants to ban burqas. But I think there's more to the opression of Muslim women than Islamphobia.

[–] 3rdWorldCommieCat@hexbear.net 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Many european countries want to or have already banned burkas, usually citing "security reasons" but sometimes outright saying it's against muslims. Some even go for the hijab too.

[–] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

So it's misogynist because this is banning of womens' wear correct? Is that the ruling class's enforcement of patriarchy you're talking about?

Or were you thinking of other forms of the ruling class enforcing patriarchy on Muslim women?

I was also intially wondering if you're talking about toxic forms of Islam. (Idk how similar this comparison is, but like how Christianity can be used toxically.)

[–] 3rdWorldCommieCat@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

It's both misogynistic as it does in a way control what women are allowed (or not allowed in this case) to wear but in the cases so far it's mostly islamophobic since the reasons cited are "against european values" or "dangerous", it specifically targets the muslim community, namely it's women, who are in a way forced to either go against their religion or step away from several public spaces. There are several examples of the ruling class enforcing patriarchy as capitalism benefits greatly from women's oppression but in the case of hijab/burka bans imo it is more of islamophobia since if it were another religious group like christians (like the catholic nuns) they don't have an issue with them being practically covered up head to toe (yeah I'm aware not all christian women are nuns and wear that outfit but most muslim women don't wear burkas let alone in western countries yet they still make laws targeting them). None of them seem to complain about the christian women who veil in public like they do for muslim women and hijab either.

Toxic forms of islam I don't have as much knowledge about so I cannot speak much on it but forcing women, muslim or not, to wear a hijab or burka is wrong as well and that is an issue in many places but it's not what the EU countries who ban them are aiming for by also forcing women not to wear them, in the end all religion can and is used to control the people by the ruling class and promote anti-communism, it depends on who's hands it falls and how each person interprets it but I myself do not like organized religion in general tbh or at all being honest even if I don't consider myself an athiest either.

[–] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

in the cases so far it's mostly islamophobic since the reasons cited are "against european values"

michael-laugh So dumb. At the same time, I can see how that's a smart move on the racist people's part to brazenly ban pieces of a religion they weren't naturalized to be familiar with.

You've shifted my perspective by mentioning this about nuns. I've been so used to seeing nuns in American media since I was little that I never noticed how they are just as covered as women who wear a hijab. Seeing Muslim wear still always feels like a brand new experience. I've really enjoyed seeing it in person recently and it was so wonderful to see this woman's beautiful outfit.

I posted this following quote(in the picture) once by a woman(different person than the fashionable woman) who was removed from speaking at a writer's event for being Palestinian, and it's fitting for the topic of banned Muslim wear:

[–] 3rdWorldCommieCat@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's racism all around and I'm glad I was able to help you see another pov on this topic, the nun comparison is something that also made it click for me and it really puts into perspective it's not about women's rights as it is about islamophobia. France is the most obvious example I've seen where not just burka but hijabs have been banned with muslim women not being able to even compete in the olympics due to wearing a hijab and muslim girls being forced to take them off in schools. it's a ban on all public spaces.

Not surprised another western event banned a palestinian from attending. Pretty sure they didn't ban ukrainians tho.

[–] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

This ban in sports is pure racism. There is no physical advantage to wearing hijabs during sports. Them being sweaty and hot in a scarf is an advantage to their opponents. This is western people spiting their own chances in sports at the chance to be Islamphobic.

Yeah, they just ban it straight up in all public places in france iirc. Just bigotry, nothing more.

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I remember a post on here from an Iranian anarchist who said the complete opposite and then ranted about “Western-leftists” blindly defending Islam.

Anarchists and not being able to whine about “Western-Leftists” for a single day challenge.

[–] HexaSnoot@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I'd have to have more context to know in what way they were claiming it's blind to support Islam when they said that. We all have flaws in our belief systems so this could go either way.

Anarchists and not being able to whine about “Western-Leftists” for a single day challenge.

I don't get it because I haven't heard much political talk from anarchists. At least not to my knowledge. Isn't that the norm since we westernized people are bound to have imperialist brainworms? It is what it is.
