Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"We have decided, after much deliberation, not to be relentlessly booed, harassed, and torn apart in a humiliating display of ineptitude and poor judgment"

Fascist will always back down from a fight that they might lose. In this case it's a fight of public shaming. The only power they have is the illusion that they have the numbers. They do not.

This is a minor loss for them but it's a good example of how to defeat them. They need to be put in a place where they cannot retreat. A true loss for fascist is not backing down from a fight. They will just use that as opportunity to show how "reasonable" they are. It's the same as their fake "reduction" in Minnesota. It's just serving to try to reduce the resistance.

Never back down and think that things will "go back" to normal. This is the failure of the liberal inside of you. Liberal democracy is dead in America. We are not going back. Keep fighting, keep shaming, until these Nazis are in a corner and outnumbered. And that includes all of the Nazis that hold the wealth of this country.

You know what? Neoliberal democracy is dead, but there's still a chance for liberal democratic values to rise again. I've been seeing some real anger from the libs since Petti. Real fucking hardcore anger from people who, before, I'd dismissed as asleep, willing to hide instead of fight.

It's like seeing an accountant dad lose his shit and pick up a big old tree branch, shouting in rage, when some asshole punches his kid. I hope it's not theater, and I hope it does not get catharsis from meaningless wins like Bovino.

The Democrat leadership is lost, but with enough anger, real liberal believers could just go in and hollow it out and wear the old party like a skin suit.

If ICE shows up at the Superbowl, I'd wish and hope that the players just refuse to even step out onto that field for even a second while the fascists are around.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 97 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Not visible enough.

Walk out onto the field and do nothing. Or perhaps kneel, that seems to upset fascists for some reason.

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 49 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Take a knee every play. Both sides. Intentionally ground the ball. Punt first down. Just an endless game of whistle stops and turnovers.

If you want your name on the right side of history and written down in every history book, this is the way to do it. Ice doesn't need to even be there. Show solidarity with Minnesota and the civilian heroes that have died there.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Walk out onto the field, sit down and have a picnic/tea party. Like literally act as if you're just going to the park or some shit.

I know it won't happen, but it's a nice visual.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 6 points 4 weeks ago

That's sounds quite pleasant.

It'd also make a nice change for the players; instead of, say, concussions.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

They should do this before every game anyways.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

They're not welcome at Superbowl if I have any say about it!

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

The players largely don't care. They got theirs and they're paid to dance for the masses. The circus must go on.

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 51 points 1 month ago

No, please come so we can kick some ass.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 44 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Don't believe a word they say. Not sure if any local activists are here but stay ready, they may show up anyway.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"Don't believe a word they say" goes both ways with all the TACOing we've seen

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh yeah I'd be equally unsurprised if they never planned to come at all. But still we have to be ready.

I know in my city there are a lot of conversations and planning around what we will do if we become the next Minneapolis because they are so chaotic and unpredictable that there's no way to know.

[–] SuperNovaStar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago

Us too. Honestly, I think anyone who cares should be getting to know their neighbors right now

[–] JustTheWind@lemmy.world 33 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Nah, let's be honest. Immensely wealthy private companies foresee a potentially negative impact to profits if an event on the scale of the fucking Super Bowl is used as a dog and pony show/display of power by the current regime. Wealth is power, and when power talks, even authority listens.

[–] BossDj@piefed.social 30 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I try not to watch the main actors in the Trump facade because their posturing is so cringe worthy, but I saw Noem tell an interviewer (or influencer?) that ICE will be at the Superbowl, but she among her reasoning was because "I can" which she said along with a huge shrug of her shoulders. The fucking EGO of these people they don't actually care about any of this, it's about the money and appearance of power.

Point is, I didn't think there was ever a plan to back away from. When she said this, she only said it because her brain got a dopamine hit thinking to herself about how cool she must look in the video.

However, Superbowl is still over a week away, and these sensitive souls could kneejerk react to their feels and change their mind any time.

Now do the Olympics, in Italy too

It’s darkly hilarious, because an Italian minister of something or other was like “it’s not like the SS are coming”

Bruh it is like the SS are coming. It’s ICEatzgruppen.

Anyone else get the feeling their presence at these sport events are being used as an employee perk? It would make it all the more delightful this stuff is getting shutdown.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Cowards gonna cower.

[–] notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 month ago

Ew, why is grandma wearing a vest with the word ‘police’ on it? She’s not a police officer.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

With all the alcohol fueled self entitlement in the seats they would get destroyed.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 weeks ago

For anyone who doesn't understand this, look up Ten Cent Beer Night. Preferably the great recap of events by the Dollop podcast.

[–] Penguin_1024@piefed.zip 8 points 1 month ago

Trump isn't the only one in this administration who always chickens out‽

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 weeks ago

I thought this was a dumb move when announced just like them deporting non-criminal people. They would scare A LOT of people away from working there leading to short staffing and frustrated patrons. Others would possibly not purchase tickets based on similar fears for friends and family. Legality aside, ICE has been racially profiling anyone who isn't white or speaks with an accent. Citizenship means dick when the targets are based on racism.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

Remember, Trump already backed out on the Bay Area / Silicon Valley in late October.

[–] IronpigsWizard@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

A bunch of drunk, high people....and ICE being present, I cannot imagine what could go wrong there, lol.

It's this ICEy TACOS? Never had that before, sounds bland, tasteless. Around here we always drink our Horchata warm.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

They probably gonna be there still.
