"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Can this wasted silicon even be used for anything productive? Especially if one doesn't run a commercial system?

Because it's plausible that amd will follow suit.

I mean, it's already embedded in a lot of different things that you may not realize.

  • Many photo/video modes on phones can/do leverage dedicated NPUs
  • Translation services that run locally

At the end of the day, anything that can be done in parallel can leverage these cores.

Ok, that's good to know. Thanks.

The ai is interpreting the assembly code instead of your processor

Don't you want the AI to be able to tell that the string of inputs it just received wasn't actually meant to be you trying to open your browser, but actually to wipe your hard drive?

Yes this is a really big improvement for people why feel that their processor is simply too reliable and are looking for a less reliable alternative
