A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God’s plan and that Pres. Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,” according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer.

From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).

The complaints came from more than 40 different units spread across at least 30 military installations, the MRFF told me Monday night.

People like this are literally going to cause the end of the human race with their “beliefs”. We have a bunch of religious fanatics killing at the behest of a demented pedophile and his genocidal buddy.

Religion is a cancer.

That's a very interesting article but does 2019 qualify as "the other day"?

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 48 points 6 days ago

They probably meant it was posted on lemmy the other day, not that the article was released the other day.

I've been saying for a while now that the biggest threat facing humanity isn't climate change but religion. By far.

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 21 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Capitalism is the sword, religion is the shield. Climate change is the consequence.

Even the Bible says no human will know the hour or the day.

Who an I kidding, no one involved here read the Bible.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 46 points 6 days ago

The Bible also says life begins at the first breath and has instructions for an abortion ritual.

[–] foxwolf@pawb.social 27 points 6 days ago (6 children)

At least these psychopathic Christian evangelical Zionists are being honest about their goals. They want the Rapture or end of the world because they think that forcing ww3 will make Jesus return. This is why Christian evangelicals support Israel no matter how depraved their policies because they believe they will start ww3 and that’s what they want. Christian nationalism is dangerous. It’s been bad for a long time and people like Mike Huckabee have been working towards this goal for decades. We used to regard these people as crazy but now we put all the crazies and narcissists in charge and that’s why everyone sane is depressed with crippling anxiety.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 39 points 6 days ago (6 children)

Religious people are so easy to manipulate lol

How they don't see it, when their "pastors" are driving Porsches and living in manions while telling you if you don't skip a meal so that you can donate to the church you're gonna go to hell... it's beyond me.

The NCO said they were Christian and emailed the MRFF on behalf of 15 troops, including at least 11 Christians, one Muslim, and one Jew. (Full email printed below.) The NCO wrote to the MRFF that their commander “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.”

How can you go in front of your mixed troops and start waxing lyrical about your specific religion? Like what sort of brain disease leads to this? Even if you are religious, you have to know that other people take their other religions just as seriously and recognize that perhaps it's better not to sow discord between them if they are supposed to battle together.

[–] Karl@literature.cafe 14 points 5 days ago

Just... What is even going on? I don't remember people being this stupid and cruel. This is after 2 world wars. How could people not see that they're doing the same things that the other dickheads did to gain enough power to butcher people? People are mad and stupid

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 30 points 6 days ago

So about that authoritarian religious regime...

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 47 points 6 days ago (4 children)

This is what cultists do when they see their reckoning coming. Rev Jones made his followers drink Kool aid (flavor aid actually) when US Senators visited and found he was keeping people against their will. Trump and his crazies will do the same. Remember ... Trump could have just been impeached, or not elected in the first place.

God is all powerful. Also, God needs you to commit war crimes to win this illegal war that he really wants to win. Like, you're the only way he can win this war. Do it for our all powerful God.

You'd have been called antisemitic for saying this exact thing yesterday.

The reason every Christians nation has turned a blind eye to the Gaza genocide is to fulfill a biblical prophecy of Jews controlling the entirety of Biblical Israel.

[–] AnimalsDream@slrpnk.net 33 points 6 days ago

People still underestimate the role of christian fundamentalism in this ongoing trainwreck. When you have a religious institution whose image of God is quite literally an abusive father, who all worship power above all else, whose church policies are to spread as far and wide as possible and systematically "train"(ie., abuse) their own children into actively seeking out every position of power possible to force their worldview onto everyone - it was only a matter of time before this all happened.

These are people who genuinely believe the war on terror is a holy war. Their entire social network is meticulously designed to draw a dichotomy between themselves (apart from the world), vs everyone else (the worldly), to isolate their own against outside views, and indoctrinate their children throughout their entire lives to vigorously proselytize on the one hand, and be ready to eliminate anyone who opposes their worldview on the other. And many of them are bloodthirsty.

The scary thing is not just that commanders may be saying this, but what an extreme outlier the citizens of the USA are when it comes to not being able to differentiate between reality and fairy-tales: https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/USA-Update/2015/0316/Do-countries-become-less-religious-as-they-get-richer

Even when the specific fairy-tales oppose these actions: quotes from Jesus according to the gospels:

"If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also." Matthew 5:39

"Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you," Luke 6:27

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So these ignorant, murderous heretics think they can force God's hand?

Their hubris knows no bounds.
