Please draft me. I can definitely be trusted around military material and commanding officers.

Zoomers are currently hurtling toward 30 and definitly arent kids

[–] mortemtyrannis@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago

See you on the frontline then friend.

[–] reader@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

the younger zoomers are still in high school but the middle section of them are prime military recruiting age which I think is the point of the meme

A lot of zoomers are getting too old to be drafted for the front lines now at least. But hell, knowing how much the ruling class loves killing kids we might have to worry more about protecting Gen Alphas

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The draft age goes up to 35 iirc so still the majority of millennials

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's 18-26 for draft service. 17-45 is the emergency militia range. Which means anyone over 26 will be press ganged into national guard status after the current waves are deployed.

In Ukraine they've successfully demonstrated that drafting 26-65 is easier. I wouldn't put it past them to change the draft age in order to reduce resistance.

How much has that been an artifact of Ukraine being somewhat geographically close to a Russia-involved military invasion, where you know the front line is few hours ride away, and could at any time move surprisingly close to your home?

As oppose to a 2 week boat ride to a mysterious mountain desert place that's biggest threat to you is that they could hypothetically 911 another liberal city you don't care about?

I'm not sure we could safely conclude this difference.

Holy hell I thought it was way lower. Like 16-25 years old for front lines.

I need to educate myself.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In Ukraine they're drafting 55 year olds. 👀

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

I thought I was safe when I turned 36 I-was-saying

[–] Canonical_Warlock@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You were thinking of the normal recruitment age. For a draft the range is higher.

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Draft is whatever they want/need. Recruitment will be exhausted first, then they'll expand it. Older people will get drafted based on profession (medical professionals will be drafted at basically any age).

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I think the ruling class learned in Ukraine that drafting older people has less resistance than drafting young people.

I would not put it past them to create an army of 26-65 and leave the young out of it in order to reduce resistance.

hell yeah, generational war has always been a tool for division and pretty stupid if i do say so myself.

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 18 points 2 days ago (4 children)

It's understandable when it's against boomers because intragenerationally the psychos manipulated the lead-brains into purging any leftist sentiments, but even they are the ideological descendants of gilded age perverts.

cognitihazard comment, most of the world boomers are victims of colonialism and lived the struggle through post colonial rebuild, the non-white boomers in the first world faced apartheid and segregation laws, when you say "boomers" don't forgot you're also mentioning poc boomers who were forced out public spaces, queer boomers who were forced to stay hidden and all of them are victims of lead poisoning. Don't forget that.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Anti-boomerism is a great way to ease people into class politics.

If we can convince millennials and gen Z they’re ontologically proletariat and the boomers are the generation that got a massive lucky break and conspired to leave everyone younger than them holding the bag, that could be a contender against racism. And with zoomers, we can larp as rightoids for a bit and say “us zoomers literally saved the GOP and made conservatism the cultural hegemony again…and boomers STILL call us easily offended! What a bunch of ungrateful bastards! This is why I left the right!”

Again, this is a great start to a possible leftist pipeline. “Boomer” will be a dogwhistle for “bourgeoisie”.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I feel like with boomers it had a lot to do with them being the wealthiest generation in history. Wealthy boomers did a lot of class warfare against literally everyone else, and after it started impacting peoples lives significantly that's when the anti-boomer stuff became common.

Which in a way kind of sucks because it ignored that there were plenty of poor boomers, and leftist boomers. It also distracted from the fact that it was a class issue, making it easy for it to just be co-opted by the right later into generational warfare.

No war but the class war stays true once again.

shitting on boomers gets a pass. only exception.
