It means that chances are if there's a god and afterlife, humans didn't get it right.

Come Judgment Day, we may find that Mumbo Jumbo the God of the Congo was the Big Boss all along.

- Robert Heinlein

Now that you explained the context, l really loved that comic strip.

[–] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Why do I suspect you're a bot?

[–] Vaelix_Prism@multiverse.soulism.net 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Because you're interacting with bots all the time ??🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

[–] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Wouldn't that make me an expert in recognising bots, making it all the more likely that I have also correctly identified you as a bot?

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 8 points 22 hours ago

Even the shitpost community can't top this madness.

Are you serious xD

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Just as likely an outcome as any.

I read a great novella about a guy who was a devout Mormon who got sent to a truly chilling version of Hell because "I'm sorry, the correct answer was Zoroastrianism."

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

That's the one! Truly fucking appalling.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Never heard of it before, but it seems to have been a major source for inspiration of Judaism, and from that of course Christianity and Islam.
So since Zoroastrianism seems to have been the original monotheistic faith of the 4, it makes sense that the copies of the original are the fake ones. Except of course they are all fake, and none of them make the least bit of sense.

[–] harambe69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

And zoroastrianism split off/evolved from the old proto-Avestan traditions, which themselves evolved alongside/from an ancient Indo-iranian root, of which Hinduism is the only other surviving branch.

Ten holy hecks, all major religions are cousins.

[–] flying_sheep@lemmy.ml 4 points 21 hours ago

Idk, the “all is one” brand of eastern religions seems to be pretty distinct from the hierarchical “God is like a king so having one is natural” western ones.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd love to know what the most isolated religion is, the one that has the fewest common branches or cousins with any other Extant religions. It's probably something like those handful of languages which only have a handful of people alive who still speak them.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 3 points 22 hours ago

Fuck it, why not?

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

Evil cousins.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Heey now, die in battle and go to Valhalla!

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Way way better, no oppression requirements and no discrimination of minorities or foreigners.
I think the Norse gods are probably among the least bad. And that's the reason the Scandinavian countries were the last among European countries to be Christened.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah what the f were they thinking?!

I remember wondering why when I learned about it in school.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

It is also notable that Christianity did not manage to change the name of winter solstice holiday to Christmas or something similar, Christianity is notable for taking over local traditional holidays, and rename them so they become completely absorbed as Christian holidays.
But Scandinavian countries still call Christmas "Jul", so their is a strong trace of the original tradition.
Luckily Scandinavian countries are also the first to abandon Christianity, and are among the least religious countries in the world.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Any idea what jul stood for?

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

Yule or jól was new year for the Vikings. First day of Yule was the first day of the new year.
This was probably the biggest holiday for the Vikings, and celebration started the evening before, just like we start celebrating New Years Eve in the evening before new year today.
In Scandinavian countries Jul is still celebrated December 24 as "Jule aften" (Christmas evening).
The Vikings celebrated with food and mead, and it was a 3 week "holiday".
In 1575 new year celebrations were finally moved to December 30, and the Christian church tried to rename Jul to "Kristmesse" similar to Christmas for English speaking countries.
Today Jul is still a mix of the old traditions and the celebration of the fable of the birth of Christ.
We have many traditions that include "nisser" (pixies) and children's songs about them. "Nisser" are a more popular imagery of Christmas than anything Christian.

So yule was not religious, it was a new years celebration.

it makes sense that the copies of the original are the fake ones.

Maybe that makes the most sense to you, but if that was bulletproof logic then Islam, Buddhism and Sikhism wouldn't even exist, since they all directly reference older faiths which they "improve upon."

To put it more clearly - their followers wouldn't follow a "re-hash" religion if they believed in the rule of O.G.

But if there's a 'true way' in religion at all, then who's to say the God wouldn't wait until later on before revealing their faith? If humans have free will maybe the God waited to see how they would fare under their own judgement before delivering the message.

And on Christianity-Judaism connectionChristianity considers itself the true 'continuation' of the faith developed by the Hebrews, and a great deal of jews (maybe even the majority) around at the time agreed with this and got baptised.

The Jews then faced persecution for rebelling against the roman empire, and were scattered and had their religious community sabotaged (i.e writings destroyed and centre of worship destroyed).

So to compensate for this some rabbis introduced a new book, the Talmud, which basically lead the jewish faith in a divergent direction from where it was. Modern jews are almost as distinct from Historical Jews (~ 30AD or earlier), as modern christians are.

Tbh, everything flows and changes. There is no "original" that survives without major changes for millenia. People change, language changes, the meaning of words and the understanding of the fundamentals governing day-to-day life changes all the time.

"Original" doesn't exist in real life.

Best comment in the whole thread

[–] Swaus01@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Exactly, it's like with countries as well as religions, which is why POTUS 47 claimed Iran had no history when it's actually one of the oldest countries on Earth from most people's POV

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 54 points 1 day ago (1 children)

With this comic, I will now be better prepared. If something like this happens, I will simply say, "Hooray! My very own butt-snipes! Thank you! Where are the tongs?"

[–] TeamAssimilation@infosec.pub 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, we’re a bit bad at spelling. We meant “thongs”, so they won’t get stuck when they breach to breathe or snipe.

[–] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bad place, it's the bad place...

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago

Wait, Jason figured it out? This one hurts.

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 47 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going, but apparently not enough to know how the fuck we got here to begin with...?

[–] M137@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

We got here because horny, all the horny in all the ways through all of history. Those are definitely the creations from that nuns inner desires.

OHHHHHH now I get it 🤦‍♀️

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 27 points 1 day ago

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Everyone who get in gets a butt-snipe.”

[–] JonnyRobbie@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm impressed that the nun still got into this heaven - she must've been doing something right....

[–] Servomoore@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago
