"Roll for initiative."

"Sorry, give me just a minute. I got logged out of my dice."

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 27 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Better than "sorry, my d20 is disabled until I pay my yearly subscription fees, though they say d20+ rolls better"

[–] zero_spelled_with_an_ecks@programming.dev 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

"You should get the Electrum tier. It comes with a +5 to all d20 rolls. It's only $80 a month if you do a 5 year plan."

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 4 days ago

Every 1 is an unskippable ad

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 18 points 4 days ago

They heard someone say "RGB needs to die already" and misunderstood the assignment.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 24 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Love how the indentations in the top part of the case don't at all match the dice on the bottom side of the case. Not the right positions. Not the right shapes. There aren't even the same number of them! Seven dice in the bottom, but only six indentations in the top!

[–] TheOakTree@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

I love that the D10 fits in a hole that is a pentagon, but the hole is rotated 72° such that a corner of the die aligns with the center of a hole-edge.

[–] I_am_10_squirrels@beehaw.org 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Probably more indication that it's Ai slop

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 points 3 days ago

The numbers look too consistent and legible for AI... I think it's a 3D render of a product that isn't even halfway through the design phase yet, and which may never actually come to market.

The dice seem to be a real product already, so I'm guessing it's this charging case that isn't a real product, at least not yet.

[–] 5ibelius9insterberg@feddit.org 23 points 4 days ago (2 children)

You think this is a joke? It’s not.

[–] RamSwamson 8 points 4 days ago

Oh yuck. The render and artwork for the box shows just the numbers illuminating, meanwhile the actual die just shoots light out of every surface. Horrible.

look inside app
yet more dataslop collection

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 14 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Would this not make the dice much harder to have a balanced weight?

There is no way the internal battery is symmetrical in every direction.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 4 points 4 days ago

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

For $49.99 extra, they'll include an extra little inertial motor inside each die that connects to your app and makes sure it lands on the number you want.

[–] Minnels@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

As someone who is extremely unlucky with dice and bought balanced ones for a ton of money, if someone told me I had to use these, I would just leave.

(The balanced dice actually works for me)

[–] noodohs@ttrpg.network 1 points 3 days ago

For Pixels, at least, a great deal of effort went in to making them perfectly balanced.

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well that's one way to have exploding dice

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 12 points 4 days ago (6 children)

They are pretty cool tbh but the price is a yikes https://gamewithpixels.com/

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 17 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Wow. Saw the price and thought, "That's not bad, really." Then I realized that was for one die, not the whole set.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Actually comparable for a lot of specialty dice. Which do tend to be a lot.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The difference is that you don't have to replace your specialty dice after 2 years or so, because the battery died.

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's the price you pay if you're the kind of idiot who has to get the super techy luxury version of something that works amazingly well and functions perfectly fine at $1.

Literally one of the cheapest parts of tabletop games, and 100% functional at less than a buck or two. It'll last your entire life too, if you're careful. If you make a fancy electronic version you can charge whatever the fuck you want because the person already decided they'll pay more than 100x what they need to for luxury they don't need.

[–] geolaw@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 days ago

What about trust? Simplicity is a feature because it increases trust. Trust that the dice are fair. Dice that are unnecessarily complex reduces that trust.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

That is ridiculously gimmicky.

They are pretty expensive, but considering each die has to have Bluetooth capabilities and a way to detect the result so it can transmit it, I'm surprised they're not more expensive.

[–] gedfromgont@piefed.ca 3 points 4 days ago

Looks very very cool and I am 100% certain after about 5 minutes of looking at it you had enough.

[–] jagermo@feddit.org 3 points 4 days ago

They also work with foundry vtt, I think.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

I bought I light bulb I had to download an app, create and account, and sign in for

[–] TheWeirdestCunt@lemmy.today 5 points 4 days ago

I got a set of these as a present, they stopped charging and broke before I ever got to use them

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I have those! The d12 doesn't charge anymore after a few months, though. Sucks.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

do the holes in the upper lid also not match the bottom

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

See my edit, I hope this clears it up.

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i know what it is, i was just making fun of the image in the OP because the holes don't match the dice

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 1 points 17 hours ago

I mean, I guess they fit over the dice okay, no?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Did it get stuck on a low number?

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

See my edit, I hope this clears it up.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lol it was a joke like it couldn't roll if it was broken. How can a dice like that be stuck on a number 😁 eh

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, it seemed to me you thought it had displays and determined numbers from a software RNG Now I got the joke 😁

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Hmm Lord Ryvan rolled yet another 20 with his display + rng dice. A bit suspicious I think. It's a d12...

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 3 days ago

Are we sure this isn't AI slop?

So close... Almost there... Unf, just a little more... All the way in... Yeah, wiggle it just like that, and... YES! YES, I AM! OHGODStheCHARGE! 🎉

[–] Firoaren@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago

Unfortunately they're not shipping to the US because of tariffs right now, excepting what arrived before tariffs. Ask me how I know
