Black Flag is 13 years old?! Now I feel old.

Remember when it came out in 2020 that Ubisoft had an internal sexual exploitation ring in which the upper management were preying on the women in the development staff?

I haven't played an Ubisoft game since, including some favorites.

[–] itsjustachairmary@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Somehow I had memory holed this. Just generally hate Ubisoft. But jesus fucking christ I remember this coming out. Yea fuck Ubisoft.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

Holy shit that was wilder than I expected

Patrux bullied and harassed others by violence and setting a colleague's beard on fire.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

Looks like I'll just wait to pirate this pirate game. :D

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 23 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The comments online are nuts. "The original had it so it's a nothing burger".

Wtf are you smoking to think it's okay to accept micro transaction on a single player game that's a remake from a decade ago?

[–] sen@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Have you see the cash shop items though?

If you want to spend an extra $12 to parade through the pirate game with flaming armour and a molten skin for your boat be my guest I guess.

This is a nothing burger. It's had this shit for years, and nobody with taste is going to buy it, so fuck it, let the fools be separated from their cash.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 12 points 5 hours ago

You can... Not just have it as a micro transaction.

Or do like every other fucking remake in the past decade and include it in the game.

God damnit Ubisoft you had ONE more opportunity where you could have redeemed yourself and you just. Can't. Fucking. Stop.

[–] Escape13@slrpnk.net 6 points 6 hours ago

Ok they can have one more chance and they better not ef it up this time. Jk fuck Ubisoft and all their ancestors

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago

Fuck Ubisoft.

  • Cash shop in a single player game.

  • Contains Denuvo and requires a Ubisoft account to use their shitty launcher.

  • Has adverts in-game.

  • Launched with $85 of DLC.

  • Immediately started laying off workers after launch.

Fuck Ubisoft, and if you bought this game, fuck you too.

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Running AC4 on my modified Xbox console. 0 issues, 0 bucks paid for the game, 0 fucks given.

Ubisoft ruined one too many games. My beloved Rocksmith now is a useless microtransaction shell of its former power. I won't buy a single ubisoft game in the future. Time to lay rest to the cancer they brought into gaming.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I should figure out what to do with my modded PS3 before the shop shuts down. I think the modded software pulls from the official store servers for some things like games?

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

AFAIK any ps3 is able to be Software hardmodded (though some sort of a program, permanent effect). There are a few series that allow to pull games off online for Xbox (some degraded and won't work anymore) and I bet something like this exists for ps3 too. Check consolemods.org. They have plenty of info there

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 59 minutes ago* (last edited 59 minutes ago)

Ooo thank you, I actually installed CFW on my PS3 already recently! I was lucky that my slim is a model that can be permanently CFW’d. I should do my 360 as well… only issue is, it doesn’t have HDMI so none of my screens work with it unless I get a capture card D:

Quick edit; oh, in my previous comment I was saying I should utilize the CFW to get some things that might not be available as easily when the store closes, which I believe in next year.

[–] QueenMidna@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago

I'm so glad I got at least some songs on Rocksmith before they were pulled from the Xbox store. The new version is absolute trash

[–] Thassodar@sh.itjust.works 25 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Honestly the "laying people off after launch" speaks volumes of the teams that do the same; can you not work multiple projects and shift people to the other one until it's complete?

The layoffs seem more like "line must go up'" than any kind of "we can no longer afford you now the job is done".

I'm probably preaching to the choir.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The layoffs seem more like "line must go up'"

This is literally always the case

[–] omarfw@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

It's self-cannibalizing also. Layoffs are now the only way for them to maximize profits enough for their shareholders to get their ROI, and in the future even that won't be enough. They will be drained of every ounce of value that can be extracted of them and then discarded. Such is the fate of every company that gets in bed with wall street.

[–] MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip 11 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, totally.

I really dislike the dishonesty. If you're always going to lay-off/downsize/insert-capitalist-euphemism-here after each project is done then stop hiring people as staff and hire them as contractors instead. Make it clear from the start it's not a permanent position.

[–] BlaestEgnen@feddit.dk 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

But that's more expensive, as people demand 50-100% more salary as a contractor; Line must go up faster

[–] MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip 2 points 10 hours ago

Yup, exactly 👍

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 9 hours ago
  • Immediately started laying off workers after launch.

Which is so fucking braindead - they could have just as easily leveraged that now-experienced team to get a Assassin’s Creed - Rogue remake out in good time, especially as that has more of the same Black Flag ship mechanics, and most players missed out due to the transition from PS3 > PS4.

[–] Drekaridill@lemmy.wtf 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Didn't Ubisoft collapse or something?

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago

Can I join your reality? Seems nice to live somewhere where moronic choices produce tangible consequences to those that made them, but that's not how it works where I live.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 12 points 10 hours ago

The company run by sex predators is doing other unsavoury shit, you say?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 47 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Sea shanties now cost $0.50 per word sung.

[–] Coyote@piefed.ca 6 points 11 hours ago

Ubi was a dev that I paid dearly,

Wey-hey bully in the alley,

And if they could they'd charge us all yearly,

Bully down on Shinbone Al'!

[–] elvith@feddit.org 23 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Why, are they generated by AI and you have to pay for the tokens? /s

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 20 points 14 hours ago

if ye buy from the cash shop ye a landlubber not a captain

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 19 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Glad I had zero hopes for this from the start. Just gonna wait for Windrose to 1.0 instead of bothering with this.

[–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 1 points 9 hours ago

Same. At this point the only thing Ubisoft could possibly convince me to buy is another VR assassins creed but they already announced that they're done with VR because they hate fun.

[–] baatliwala@lemmy.world 10 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Eh? The original had a cash shop too, and some stuff locked behind a mobile companion app AFAIK

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 hours ago

Pretty sure there were weekly challenges as well. It would tell you global stats of how many ships destroyed or whatever.
