On Wednesday twitch changed their site rules to allow artistic nudity. The policy allowed streams to display nonsexual nudity as long as the stream is tagged, so that the stream would be hidden from the front page. Twitch rescinded the policy 2 days later.

the gamer rage about 'titty streamers' has to be documented like wtf is going on with that (misogyny)

[-] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 34 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

A lot of it is misogyny, especially in the case of so called titty streamers that are really just women wearing normal clothes (leggings, tops with midriff) and then being hypersexualised.

However, I also think some of it's because in a lot of cases these people are shit at the games and not very entertaining. At the start of it I remember certain 'titty' youtubers were using fake gameplay. Their content is more based on sexual parasocial relationships. It doesn't really belong in the same space as a bunch of other entertainers.

Twitch is a cam site. They can't be mad they have cam girls

[-] Coasting0942@reddthat.com 15 points 8 months ago

Or that cam girls score higher in the scale of what gamers brains want to see.

[-] NewAcctWhoDis@hexbear.net 29 points 8 months ago

Twitch has a some streams that are literally a woman in body paint or pasties jumping for money. Some (not all) of the titty streamer complaints are about this, not women playing games in a swoop neck.

AFAIK the most recent rule changes don't address this, it's still allowed, but you can't stream yourself drawing a naked person.

Doesn't really fit into my point, but here's the funniest ban during the brief window where drawn nudity was allowed: https://x.com/baalbuddy/status/1735397897242579068?s=20

So weird the moral panic that was happening from this lmao. People are way too obsessed with kids seeing nudity, every generation grew up trying to see porn, from boomer magazines to fuzzy ppv on channels you didn't have access to to sneaking it on a laptop, I don't see how this is effectively different lol.

Whatsmore is that there's this pretending like the Internet isn't one giant ecosystem. There's literally nothing stopping kids from opening up pornhub, or if it's blocked some other million sites to choose from, on another tab and saying they're 18 lol. Why does it fucking matter if twitch allows some nudity on there?

[-] President_Obama@hexbear.net 35 points 9 months ago

Why does it fucking matter if twitch allows some nudity on there?

It does to advertisers who don't want their product associated with that. Also, Hexbear doesn't allow nudity / porn partly because it doesn't fit the culture that the mod team wants to cultivate, same goes for Twitch

[-] GoebbelsDeezNuts@hexbear.net 23 points 8 months ago

same goes for Twitch

nah, they also promote joining the military and beer to children. they're just caving to weird incel nerds who wont shut up about this. it has nothing to to with any kind of moral imperative

[-] SwitchyWitchyandBitchy@hexbear.net 20 points 8 months ago

I think they’re most likely caving to advertisers. Not g*mers.

[-] Tripbin@hexbear.net 6 points 8 months ago

And parents. G*mers and incels can pretend all they want that they're mad about nudity and they'll harass the people doing it but deep down they want their titty streams and are probably frothing at this ban. I think it's def more advertisers and parents who walked past their kids on twitch and saw them watching some softcore.

What fucking culture ARE they trying to promote on twitch? Kinda seems like the platform is basically designed for cam porn.

[-] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 26 points 9 months ago

As one YouTube comment I saw elegantly put it

The cam site finally became a cam site

[-] Moss@hexbear.net 18 points 9 months ago

I think hexbear does allow nudity so long as it's properly tagged as nsfw, but not porn. I've definitely seen some butts on here

[-] GreenTeaRedFlag@hexbear.net 18 points 8 months ago

Someone linked a video of themselves lactating while "a red sun rises" played. That got removed but it did happen

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 9 points 8 months ago

wtf how do I miss all the weird shit that goes on here

[-] GreenTeaRedFlag@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago

A lot of shit happens all the time, but screenshotting our own comments is poor form so we don't record weird shit we do.

Apparently this is a hot take: porn should be age-gated.

Nudity isn't the same thing as porn and while you can argue that twitch's new policy bans too much, it's inarguable that many streams were pornographic. Kids shouldn't be suggested streams of girls twerking on their Fortnite website.

Also I think pornhub and similar porn sites should do more to filter out children.

[-] Grandpa_garbagio@hexbear.net 6 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

it's not a hot take, it's what everyone is saying in the discourse. i'm saying there's nothing to be done about it and kids looking for porno and finding it before they're of age is a ubiquitous experience throughout multiple generations and i do not think this is particularly different.

you can dislike this but i mean it's just reality.

Porn should not be in spaces not specifically for it. It's distracting and at times disgusting when it's where it doesn't belong.

Is the former policy why I saw a screenshot of some greased up girl without a top on twitch?

I don't think twitch could possibly be used for "artistic" nudity tbh. It would just become a cam porn site, which it almost is anyway.

[-] dead@hexbear.net 25 points 9 months ago

Yes. There was a surge of streams that were testing the boundaries of the new rule. I think Twitch may have revoked the rule because they were overwhelmed by how many streams were testing the limits.

[-] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 32 points 9 months ago

testing the limits.

yeah, testing the limits of how big of a dick and balls would fit on their drawing of a wolf-man.

get that bread while they'll let you i guess.

[-] Parsani@hexbear.net 15 points 9 months ago

Considering the history of streamers testing the limits, they must have known what would happen

[-] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 13 points 9 months ago

Is the former policy why I saw a screenshot of some greased up girl without a top on twitch?

depending on the girl she might've been dressed and using a suggestive camera angle. if you saw female-presenting nipples i'm thinking of someone else.

[-] Parsani@hexbear.net 12 points 9 months ago

IIRC it was framed so the image ended before any nipples so she could have been wearing some kind of top ig

[-] NewAcctWhoDis@hexbear.net 8 points 8 months ago

The latest policy doesn't change that. They rolled back depictions of nudity, but not any of the rules around actual people.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 29 points 8 months ago

Is it artistic nudity if you titty stream if you play Bach in the background?

[-] GreenTeaRedFlag@hexbear.net 13 points 8 months ago

Yes, and everyone should do it

[-] manuallybreathing@hexbear.net 28 points 9 months ago

female presenting breasts lol topless men aOKAY then? pre op trans guys with hairy tits alright? non passing trans women?

this community concern just stinks to me that some capital G gamers are upset they can't keep women out of gaming, it's about ethics in video game streaming or something

i'll never understand live entertainment outside of people's obsession with the thrill of seeing a mistake anyway, ala Janet Jackson, give me carefully curated scripted content, or give me death

[-] WaterBowlSlime@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 8 months ago

Though the distinction between girl boobs and boy boobs is silly, that's a cultural thing not a twitch thing. Have you been on twitch much? It was filled with low-key porn streams of nude streamers & artists drawing smut and high-key porn streams of women twerking.

(And I know the distinction between porn/not porn is blurry but if you saw them you'd get it)

I don't think gamers are the community with the concerns, if anything, they're mad that twitch is kicking out their cam girls.

[-] manuallybreathing@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago

i've spent far more time lurking in manosphere adjacent spaces than I have on twitch, and that definitely colours a lot of the views I have about online interactions lol

I hope you're right

[-] WaterBowlSlime@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 8 months ago

The new policy hasn't really done anything yet. Go to twitch right now and choose to watch an art stream. I guarantee you'll see a whole bunch of twerking - I saw 4 streams without needing to scroll down. (also several artists drawing skimpy women with massive dobonhonkeros)

F in the chat for all the cute furry twinks and femboys drawings

[-] Utter_Karate@hexbear.net 21 points 8 months ago

Got it. If I'm gonna nude on Twitch I'll make sure its very sexualized and in bad taste with no artistic merits.

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 20 points 9 months ago

I'm surprised it lasted 2 days tbh

[-] PaulSmackage@hexbear.net 19 points 8 months ago

Going live on stream winnie the pooh style

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 17 points 8 months ago

Stream Kingdom Hearts in authentic Donald Duck cosplay

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 17 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Obviously there is an element of misogyny, but I think most of the people here complaining about the rule have not actually perused Twitch to see how things were (let alone a more thorough investigation). "Titty streamers," though I don't use the term, aren't just busy women playing video games (that is fine and within policy). Hot tub streams aside, "titty streamers" are the ones who are top less whose entire stream is just them sitting their, periodically shaking their shoulders and "reacting" to "content" that takes up about 1/16 of the screen and that's the whole stream for fucking hours. Twitch is trying to not be saturated with softcore 24/7.

It's really just a pathetic state of affairs, though just the one a shitty site like Twitch deserves.

[-] Abraxiel@hexbear.net 9 points 8 months ago

They're still allowing that though as far as I know. Just can't draw fat cocks, etc. anymore.

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago

Oh yeah, didn't mean to imply I was so up to date I really knew what the "artistic nudity" manifested as beyond that it was more of the softcore like the website already has.

This is what happens when there are only 6 websites or so. You shouldn't get your softcore parasocial stuff on the same website as video game streamers. There's gonna be some infiltration but this is why different websites exist, sometimes you get dudes streaming video games on porn sites as well, but it's the exception until you conglomerate everything and then you gotta do weird policy choices to try to have all the cakes and eat all the cakes too.
