Them pulling out of Spotify was the last push I needed to switch to Tidal. The only downside for me is there was a spotify exclusive cover of Daisy by Wet Leg that you can’t get anywhere else.

Giz has all of their stuff on bandcamp for pay what you can

Wet leg is in there too

Join mp3 gang and leave streaming behind

PSPs and DS/3DSs play them pretty well, plus you get style points for being "retro".

[–] ChapulinColorado@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

As someone that owned both, please don’t use them for audio (at least the first gen PSP, don’t know about the revisions). The audio while there is very bad compared to even BT audio nowadays. DS was especially bad that I didn’t bother with it. They are fine for retro games (and native games) even today though.

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The audio was bad even with headphones? I never personally noticed a quality difference using the trusty 3.5mm jack present on those devices from the original mp3 file that I was using.

It was pretty muddy but usable. I had a PSP hooked up to my car stereo via 3.5 jack on a custom dock that made it look really cool for a student on a budget back in the day (especially with the graphic the PSP could do while playing music), however whenever one of my friends would connect their iPod the difference in clarity was easy to tell.

I had basic after market speakers, with a very basic after market stereo (maybe ~$200 for both), nothing crazy but even in those you could tell. This was with a first gen PSP.

Edit: I also remember it could struggle a little with some of the bigger headphones (I had a pair of Sony MDR V6) at higher volumes (again still usable, but not ideal).

can't wait to chuck a psp in my pocket to listen music on the go hahaha

Qobuz allows you to stream but also to buy high quality albums which you can then download as well. Of course choose the option you prefer as long as you support bands you listen to. I bought plenty of King Gizzard albums on Bandcamp too now. Other bands I buy vinyl from that sometimes also means I get codes for those albums on Bandcamp. And through Qobuz artists I listen to at least get higher reimbursement for those streams.

One complaint I have about Qobuz isn't even Qobuz fault.

But often my purchased track are removed shortly after purchase.

The DMCA trolling is so bad that Qobuz has to prunt a warning that you download your tracks ASAP after purchase.

That said i can't find better services than Qobuz and Bandcamp.

[–] DV8@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

My biggest complaint is they act like everyone in Belgium speaks French. And you can't choose your language for either communication or interface, they base it of country. So despite being part of a majority of Dutch speakers, I get everything in French, including French language artists.

Still worth it though.

[–] FeatherConstrictor@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wait is that why qobuz's library is a bit lacking? Why do they have so many DMCA takedowns?

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

I presume it's a similar licensing to tv shows. They get a conditional license for a short period of time and then it's revoked and theyre forced to comply.

I totally understand taking down the store listing. But if I already bought the music, I expect to be able to download them again in perpetuity.

I wish more musicians could / would reject record labels and publish independently.

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bet ill have to look into that. Sometimes strraming is nice for discovering new artists. I just dont vibe with any of the main stream services

[–] DV8@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I do recommend getting a trial, it has none of the social features of a Spotify and no free tier means you can't share links to people who don't use it. For me the last is a bit of a shame since I'd like to use that method to get friends acquainted with it. For me, it's worth it.

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Thats something i really liked about tidal. Their share link just opens the track i the recipients native streaming app. Works pretty well with youtube, tidal, spotify, and apple services

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Look i hear you but im lazy and already know how to mp3

[–] hateisreality@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Bandcamp gets so much of my money....it's the best service

[–] binarytobis@lemmy.world -3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bandcamp doesn’t have spotify exclusives, but I hear you.

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, doesnt solve that specific issue, but if more people start buying instead of renting, maybe artists will make more bandcamp exclusives lol

But isn't tidal all Kanye or something?

[–] sobchak@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think Jay-Z funded part of it; not sure if he's still involved or not... Looks like Block owns the vast majority of it now, and they're a particularly shady and shitty enterprise as well.
