"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

With RAM prices and other computer components increasing so much in price it made me think about who is impacted by this.

Gamers and PC enthusiasts in particular are going to be hit hard by this (but anyone who needs a computer or smartphone or even other devices is in fact impacted) so I believe this should be leveraged to the maximum extent possible.

The same could be said of anyone who isn't a Trump bootlicker because OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman gave $25 million to Trump and it needs to be a decision he must very deeply regret.

Also artists have long not liked OpenAI.

I hope this thread could serve as a way to brainstorm finding groups of people who would be most upset at OpenAI then turning that anger into action and ultimately making as much of an impact as possible. Does anyone have any ideas they'd like to share? I can say for myself finding out about the Trump donation made me personally very angry at OpenAI for doing that. Other groups of people would have their own reasons like being upset their computer is a lot more expensive.

I think no matter what group the conclusion is always the same. Cancel your ChatGPT, Copilot and Microsoft 365 subscriptions. Groups most angered by OpenAI which would be a very broad coalition all with the same goal could really propel this forward.

Does it really matter if someone who likely works hard all day for little money finds a little joy in life? Really it's the billionaires we need to focus on and by taking on OpenAI we're fighting the people who are the real problem in this world.

I do a little bit understand where you're coming from. Maybe someone who owns a RTX 4090 doesn't need the 5090 but how many people really do that?

Tbh it's probably projecting/venting frustration from buying a few (on separate occasions) new processors that turned out to be delidded and broken. Hard to come to any other conclusion (at least for me) than linus tech tips memes gone wrong to get that 10th of a frame performance bleeding over into my hardware.

Per the specifics of RAM. I have a "enough is enough it's probably the cheapest component short of a fan component" mentality. But I have a stockpile, buy the cheapest shit, and who the hell am I to judge? People do some wild cool stuff home labbing.

Sorry if it came across the wrong way, I wasn't aiming at our community.
