The games are part of my childhood, and they aged really well, so if I don't stop myself from playing them all the time the muscle memory kills all the joy from playing.

Same thing with the two anime series - I love both but it has been a few years since I watched either.

Now I wait until Christmas before allowing myself to watch Die Hard.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Most comedy specials, the George Carlin post today reminded me of that. If you listen too frequently they'll lose their punch, and you'll stop listening to what they're saying. Every few years I'll listen to him (and a few other comedians) and it reminds me of everything

Oh another one I just thought of. The Mass Effect trilogy.

Used to do it every year and got burned out, now every 3 years or so I jump back in and save the galaxy. Wait - this might be three years this summer!

For me it's books. I try not to read The Discworld series too often. Same thing with a few of my favourite books: Jane Eyre, Ivanhoe, Villette, etc. I also try to ensure a long enough gap (few years) between each read so that details of the books become a bit hazy in my mind and I can enjoy my read almost like the first time.

Cowboy Bebop (the anime series, not the live action), sadly only one season exists.

Definitely the band "Heilung."

I refuse to listen to them outside of live at a concert. It's old Nordic style viking goodness and the live shows are more of a ritual than a concert. When I go, I want a full immersive experience and I feel listening to them in between the concerts takes away from the experience.

I do this with music.. if one of my favourite nostalgia songs comes on and I'm not driving with the windows down in summer, it's for sure getting skipped!

Some books and mangas, but mostly the Ghibli movies. Specially because when I watch one of them, I immediately want to go on a full Ghibli marathon.

They're beautiful.

Pokemon games (red/blue) and Harry Potter novels. I have to wait long enough that I don't remember every detail.

Few dirty doujins that always get me going, but I try not to use them too often lest they lose their charm

Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle Earth. Great game from like 2004; there's a super niche online community that still keeps the games downloadable and in great state.

On a completely different direction, if anyone is bored and wants to try K Dramas, check out Crash Landing on You - it's about a woman who ends up in North Korea after a paragliding accident, and tried to escape.

The Orville, Fresh Prince, and Firefly.

Been watching these three shows for many years; still haven't seen every episode of any of them. One episode every few months/years is enough for me.

I fear for the day that I finally finish one of them.

I replay Morrowind maybe every few years, and I'm able to enjoy it every time I play.

As for movies, I saw barbarian in the theater and I have waited to watch it again even though I loved it, until just last month when I reunited with an old friend who loves weird horror movies, and it was so good. We actually watched terrifier also, and I hadn't seen that in a couple years. It was so much fun to watch those movies sort of fresh with someone I knew would enjoy them, there were parts in both movies that surprised me again.

Ehhhh, to a limited extent, Christmas movies. But it's only partly so it doesn't get diluted, it's also because they're kind of meant to be something to make the season a bit happier. They don't work as well outside of the holidays, so why bother?

The Dark Knight movie. Goddamn that is good. Maybe my top film of all time.

LOTR trilligy. I have extended versions on DVD and love them.

Final Fantasy VIII. I want to play it all the time and i wish i could erase the plot from my memory and play it again for the first time.

IT Crowd and Peep Show.

Halo reach, I'll never get the feeling of my first run through back, but I forget smaller details when I wait a few years between playthroughs.

The Shield, what a ride.

For me it's Aliens. I hadn't watched it in probably 15 years and did recently when the 4k version came out.

It was so, so worth waiting for. Watched it with my 3 oldest kids and it was their first time. Amazing time was had by all.

Edit: Oh and this song by Sylvan Esso. I listen to it about once every three months and get goosebumps every time.

I do this with any new song I discover. When I first listened to Radiohead I consumed their albums like opioids, now I'm being more careful with The Smile, I listen to Bending Hectic once a week max.

Hey, OP. Check out the podcast Dissect. They did a season breaking down each track of "Inside". It was really interesting and really gave me a deeper appreciation for the entire project.

Not that I'm stopping myself from going back to it too often but for being such a popular song, Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz somehow has managed to not lose it's magic on me. I never search for it but every organic encounter in the wild stops me on my tracks and sends chills down my spine. A true masterpiece.

I have read my favorite series only three times. I cracked the seal (figuratively) during a low point caused by the pandemic, among other things.

So glad I saved it. Now I probably wont wait another 20 years to read it again, but I'm glad I kept it fresh for myself.
