On one had, responding like that is definitely a sign that it's not going to work. On the other hand, that's a perfectly normal feeling for a person who doesn't live their life on the internet.

Be sure to follow the rule before you head out.
Rule: You must post before you leave.
When you have to explain 10 years of Internet history to explain a level 5 meme to your normie friends...
And what these youth do not understand is that we revolutionaries were there on the ground when Level I began ✊😔
I mean, how is it any different than referencing movies, music, TV shows, stand-up comedy, or any other piece of pop culture?
Would referencing a movie somebody hasn't seen before make you terminally in-theater or something? Though, having said that, I am now going to take every opportunity I can to work the phrase "terminally in-theater" into my daily life anytime somebody mentions a Marvel movie or something.
It's not. If you're really into pop culture and you frequently make such references then someone who is not will have a hard time communicating with you.
It's not about internet culture being bad, it's about the communication gap between people with very different cultural references.
Depends on how obscure a meme is. At least with people in their 20ies, even the ones who arent internet people will know the more popular memes
Unless it's badger, badger, badger era. These kids don't even know about Trogdor, the Burninator.
I was a kid when that came out and definitely only know it because of "AntiqueMemes" content lol
Did you know Homestar Runner at all?
Used to watch Homestarrunner on dial-up.
Would take about 20 to 30 minutes to load a 3-4 minute toon.
Don't miss that part of internet antiquity.
TROGDOR
how to not pass the vibe check
Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.
Shaka, when the walls fell
Picard, hands on face
Tembah, his arms open
Data, fully functional.
I like to imagine they always take a little pause to raise their eyebrows and tilt their head when they say "fully".
Screw those functional people, all my homies are terminally online messes
I appreciate people like this because they let you know right from the start they arnt worth your time.
If I keep showing you memes and you don't get them, I will start to question if you are even a human being since most memes are relatable to simply being human. Like, even a normie should relate to generic memes.
Unless they don't understand how to read the format
The using eyes to see colors format?
This guy definitely read "The Game" and thought he was successfully negging
And I just lost, thank you very much
Fuck I lost too
Its a meme you dip
"Oh, you gave them a name?"
If you don't have in-jokes with the homies tf is up with you? Thats basically memes in a nutshell, though obv some memes are more localized to particular ingroups then others so I can understand the flipside... Spiders georg vs. jolly ranchers vs. todays main character sounds incomprehensible except to the right intersection of three websites (though with cross pollination being what it is you may only need one.)
hierogoofics
What's a... "Meh meh?"
I remember a native English speaker correcting my pronunciation of meme to maymay back in like 2015 and I felt so ashamed for pronouncing it meem back then... I didn't have friends who were into memes yet and was very insecure. I think about her often.
I was corrected to meemee, and I too felt ashamed. Well, who's laughing now?
Why do people add 'rule' after post titles?
You know the rules, and so do I.
(read the community rules)
So I'm supposed to memorise all your little community rules just to post here?
The "rule" in reference is if you visit the community you must post something before leaving. And titles are hard.
Edit: wait —
Rule rule
you didn't memorize the little picture did you
No, but I admire the people who can memorize, recall and communicate by using the little pictures without the slightest effort. 😔
miss me with that tbh
