lol, lmao even

Been said before, but a speed run of the collapse of the American Empire was supposed to take years, not months. This is next level tech and hopefully we can see a Project 2025 ghoul at this year’s SGDQ

"If they don’t want to work in the office and contribute to making America great again, then they are free to choose a different line of work, and the Trump Administration will provide a very generous payout of 8 months."

[-] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

The funny thing is, this could have been an attractive option to people who were Medicare eligible and close to retirement, if Trump didn’t just grind entitlements to a screeching halt.

A friend of mine who just moved for a federal role fresh out of college and hates their job and their work site. Their email was different from the article and said they don't have to work at all while still getting paid. So they can get paid for 7 months of searching for a job somewhere else. I guess to prevent them from spreading DEI propaganda in the meantime?

The FAQ on the OPM actually says that people are not expected to work during the resignation period. But they can also just fire you at any time before September.

I said so many fucking times that if Elon comes in and does DOGE and fires 30% of the US states' workforce in "cost savings" like he did at X the entire machine will come to a grinding halt.

I can't fucking believe they're actually doing it.

[-] volcel_olive_oil@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago

they're finally shutting it down to figure out what's going on bloomer

[-] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 26 points 1 day ago

I'm not a fan of the US govt, but if this also includes people like librarians, national park or museum staff it's really grim regardless.

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 8 points 23 hours ago

It sure does! Idk that it’s that many librarians, most of those are local or state employees, but it definitely includes the Smithsonian staff

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 38 points 1 day ago

I was worried when Elon got on board, but it seems he's turning the government into X the everything app and that's just great (as someone who doesn't live in the US). I weep for all you Yankees though.

I just assume this has something to do with Musk because it's the same type of dogshit maneuvers he did to twitter.

People are missing the actual point of this. It is a bribes based government purge. It is actually pretty brilliant and also terrifying.

[-] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 56 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

More or less.

This is how a lot of companies these days avoid 'layoffs', they offer things like this where people who know they will be fired, or who are close to retirement, or who want to go elsewhere, take the severance because it's better than just being canned (or leaving) anyway

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 39 points 1 day ago

is a bribes based government purge

Am I just clueless clueless but what do you mean? Do you mean, bribing people who will stay on???

[-] rootsbreadandmakka@hexbear.net 49 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The goal is to “drain the swamp” of all federal workers to both reduce the size and capacity of the federal govt, to of course be replaced by the private sector, and purge the federal government of non-loyalists so that he can replace them with loyalists.

By doing all he’s done this past week - forced return to office, freezing funds and communication, freezing travel and just generally making it impossible for people to do their work, he gives them a reason to want to leave. He then sweetens the deal by offering buyouts to those who leave. So either stay at your job and deal with roadblocks and a toxic work environment, or take a buyout and get pay and benefits through September.

Edit: btw he did this to the USDA in his first term. Decided to move parts of the agency out to Kansas City. Many with lives and families in DC didn’t want to go. So now those offices of the USDA have been gutted. No buyout, but a similar goal, find a way to force federal workers to leave.

He also moved the BLM headquarters from DC to some mining town in Colorado

[-] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 54 points 1 day ago

No, it's bribing people to leave without making a fuss.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago

Ah right I think I understand phoenix-think

[-] trabpukcip@hexbear.net 41 points 1 day ago

Buying goodwill from people you would have fired anyway

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 60 points 1 day ago

Hahaha holy shit he's blowing up the government.

generally most of the reason for staying in a GS rated position is the benefits, including the pension which is calculated based on years of service.

it isn't like tech douche start up world where it's all salary and stove-piped stock options and a maniacal boss who can terminate medical insurance at a whim.

there simply aren't enough political appointees to oversee and pressure people to leave without an actual pension buyout including healthcare, which would balloon the shit out of costs, which would over what these agencies have in their budgets. which would require added funding from congress.... good luck selling that as efficiency.

there's a reason they are saying "paid through September" because that's all the funding they have to work with, since that's the end of the federal fiscal calendar.

honestly, I bet they don't even get 5% of the workforce to take the bait, even making it so easy to resign with Musk's auto-resign-by-email app, which probably fails some HR paperwork requirement of a legit digital signature.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

Musk's auto-resign-by-email app

Someone could do something really fucking funny if they can trick it into accepting incorrect emails.

[-] Goblin@hexbear.net 62 points 1 day ago

It's not even a buyout, it's a you get to keep teleworking but you voluntarily resign by September.

King of deals, at it again

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 5 points 23 hours ago

Oh it’s telework till September and not PTO till September? Waaay worse deal fuck that

[-] Goblin@hexbear.net 3 points 21 hours ago

It's unclear, the email that was sent reads like what I said but OPM released a memo that says they should be put on admin leave unless needed to continue critical work or transfer responsibilities which is to be determined by agency which lol means you'll be working still.

Niche French social media platform Hexbear.net to acquire US Postal Service

"Basically, what we want the world to hear is that we're going postal," site representative Lyudmila Pavlyuchenkova told CNN's Jake Tapper. With the Press Secretary position once again unoccupied, the Trump Administration has again muddied the water by posting wildly different accounts and conflicting information to supporters on Truth Social and X (formerly Twitter), reflecting a phenomenon the White House has repeatedly refused to comment on following the rumored rift between the Musk and Trump camps within the administration.

[-] prole@hexbear.net 32 points 1 day ago

i thought such measures were for smaller countries like Argentina, Greece or ones outside the capitalist bloc like the USSR. But nope.

An email went out to the federal workforce Tuesday evening, with a subject line that had ties to Elon Musk.
