I do pineapple and bacon instead of the pineapple and ham combo and I think it is far superior.

And for even more exciting flair, I think Korean fried chicken sauce is good on pizza too, with the earthy and spicy gochujang, garlic, and sesame. I'll add it to any pizza, plain, pepperoni, or pineapple bacon.

Pepperoni pineapple all day. It's the best. Fight me.

[–] ookiiBoy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

No, my friend. For it is true.

[–] 0ops@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

Hell yeah! With extra red chili flakes. Sweet and spicy. I'm down to fight tho, let's go

mmm the best pizza in my town is from a Greek restaurant, and my favorite is with gyro and feta. lawd have mercy...

[–] Ribbons@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 month ago

Meatballs. Have yet to see any pizzeria offer it but whenever we do a homemade pizza and there happens to be leftover meatballs, it's fantastic.

[–] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oregano. For some reason, my local pizza place takes extra money for putting oregano on the pizza. No problem, I have my own supply of oregano for my pizza.

Gyro meat. It's like sausage but better. Fantastic with Canadian bacon and salami.

Also, salami.

Literally free vitamins. You can slap some leaves on any pizza and improve it.

Potato.

I mean, have you ever seen potato on a pizza? I haven't.

[–] Trex202@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Boston Pizza:

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Yes, back around 24 years ago I was picking my sister up from her university and went into the student union building. The pizza place inside had a pizza with potatoes, broccoli and some kind of meat. I believe it was called the Sunday dinner pizza.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Mashed potatoes on pizza is incredible and I'm being 100% serious

Not a topping but mustard as a dipping sauce for my pizza crust. I’m not a crust person. But dipping dry crunchy crust into mustard almost feels like eating a pretzel.

Tastes great with pepperoni too.

[–] Shortstack@reddthat.com 5 points 1 month ago

Tomato.

It adds a wonderful contrast to something heavy or greasy like sausage. If I order a pizza that’s usually what I’ll get, but only at some pizza joints

[–] thenewred@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Basil. Feta. Kalamata olives.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

Soppressata. A cured Italian meat with a tangier taste than pepperoni. It’s delicious!

Shrimp and bacon with a pesto sauce instead of red sauce is one of my fav pizzas.

[–] JSocial@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I've been working my way through the pizzas at Pizza Artesanal.

The roasted potato and roasted pumpkin cream were two toppings that really stood out as surprisingly delicious.

green peppers.

sausage and green peppers are always in any pizza order I have to make for a party, and it's always the first to go.

[–] libra00@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Italian sausage. No, I know everyone likes it, but that's still not capturing its full glory: it is the best topping, but most people are like 'yeah it's alright but it's no pepperoni'. No, it's better than pepperoni, and therefore underrated.

[–] plz1@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I hate pepperoni, team sausage & mushrooms, all the way. The worst is pepperoni that curls into a bowl shape and holds grease, ick.

I have an anti-topping suggestion: no cheese. Try it, especially if you like lots of different toppings and veg. You'll actually be able to taste them without that bitter yellow slime enveloping everything.

I'm not a vegan or anything. I just think pizza is so much better without cheese.

[–] dumples@midwest.social 7 points 1 month ago

If a pizza place has bad cheese it isn't worth eating. Only eat pizza with good cheese

[–] semisimian@startrek.website 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I started making vegan pizzas this way. Deconstruct the red sauce too and just use sliced tomatoes, spices and olive oil as the base, then fresh veggies on top. It's like bruschetta pizza.

If you want to go no-cheese and are missing a little umami flavor, like the savory you'd get from Parmesan, sprinkle on nutritional yeast. If you are missing the creamy flavor of mozzarella, cashew paste in little pearls all over the pie works

[–] thegreatloofa@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Chopped hazelnuts. I add them if I ever have home cooked pizza

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Cashew, chicken, cranberry and Camembert is a good combo.

[–] Gold_E_Lox@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 weeks ago

dang i gotta try this four c's pizza

[–] iii@mander.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

Flammekueche should be more popular in my opinion

[–] AlDente@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sweet potato!

I've only seen it available at one pizza place and would get it with chicken, bacon, and a barbeque-sauce base.

Edit: The lobster pizza I had in Maine was pretty good too. They put lobster on everything up there!

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago

Peaches.

Cactus.

Egg.

Not necessarily the same pizza.
