Summary

Minnesota Republican state Sen. Justin Eichorn, who introduced a bill classifying "Trump Derangement Syndrome" as a mental illness, was arrested for allegedly soliciting sex from a minor.

Police say Eichorn believed he was meeting a 16-year-old girl but was actually texting undercover officers. His arrest came just a day after he and four other Republican senators introduced the controversial bill.

Eichorn, who is married with four children, was booked into jail and will be transferred to the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.

So... Is the house no longer tied or what?

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 23 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

In maga's eyes, Trump has made just about all their own criminal and amoral activity acceptable. They think it is now perfectly fine to be a felon, rapist and pedophile, to steal from charities and small businesses, and to use taxpayer's money to line their own pockets. Trump has become their gold standard.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real, but just like everything with the GOP it's projection. Holding an evil, vile human being such as Trump up as something to aspire to, and expecting others to treat him and others like him as decent, honorable human beings is indeed deranged.

I think what amazes me the most is that is seems like every single maga politician is an absolute garbage person. You'd think sheerly by statistics there would have to be one who isn't but apparently that isn't the case.

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The thing about rightwing politics/christian politics, is that it is obsessed with women's purity, and who's the most likely to be pure? A literal child. Combine that desire for "purity" with refusal to hold people accountable, and it's no wonder it consistently attracts the most vile pedophiles.

Consequently, all of the homophonic and transphobic "groomer" stuff is actually just an appeal to their pedophile base, because if they can deflect the meaning of the word groomer, if they can water it down enough, then the Matt Gaetzs of the world can get away with it easier.

Fetus=sacred. The mother should die to save one.

Post pubescent child=corrupted by sexuality. Healthcare is commy stuff.

The MAGA platform is inherently hateful, bigoted, selfish and shortsighted. It is lead by greedy amoral narcissists and sociopaths and preaches contempt for law, ethics and personal integrity. All issues are a matter of us vs them, so when one of us does something that gets called out by them, the problem is with them calling one of us out.

Anyone who is still a MAGA supporter has already excused the inexcusable more times than they can count. Those with a moral compass left a long time ago. Sure, there will be people who barely pay attention and who are genuinely ignorant of what the party they support is actually doing. But those people aren't the ones running for office or actively participating in political organizations.

the good ones know that they can't stand out so they keep to themselves

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I'm choosing to assume that by "good" you mean "successfully inconspicuous".

Ok people can we please stop electing narcissists that bang kids

He’ll get pardoned.

By who? His charges are State Level so Trump can't pardon him and Gov. Tim Walz won't pardon him.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

After all that’s happened do you honestly think legality is an obstacle to these people?

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I'm failing to see a mechanism where a Federal Pardon for State charges would result in Tim Walz letting this guy out of prison. What are they going to do? Send the US Military over and attack the place?

What you are describing is completely absurd. It's beyond hyperbole.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 5 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Trump will say he’s pardoned, sign a paper, and he will be released. He doesn’t care about mechanisms because that’s for someone else to worry about.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Trump will say he's pardoned, sign a paper, and then the guy won't be released because Trump isn't in charge of Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

He doesn’t need to be. He’s in charge of enough to make problems for them if they don’t comply. What makes you think the person in charge of a prison wouldn’t be eager to please Trump in the first place?

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 5 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (3 children)

What makes you think the person in charge of a prison wouldn’t be eager to please Trump in the first place?

Because they can be immediately fired by their boss Gov. Tim Walz, former running mate of Kamala Harris.

I understand the American System is confusing at the best of times and that right now is not the best of times but you're talking straight up nonsense. It isn't possible.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

There are a lot of things happening right now that a younger-me would have thought was "straight up nonsense" and "impossible."

I want to believe that proper protocol will be followed, but I also don't believe there are limits to what the current GOP would try.

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I want to believe that proper protocol will be followed

This isn't a matter of "following the proper protocol" it's that there is NO protocol. The action is specifically prohibited by law and is enforceable by a political enemy of President Trump. People comment about "A court has no ability to enforce it's decisions." but in this case it's a STATE and they DO have the ability to enforce a decision.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 0 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

there is NO protocol.

Weren't you just arguing that there is protocol that would prevent Trump from overreaching his authority?

That's the "protocol" I'm hoping will be followed - the legal framework that would prevent such fuckery.

At the same time, I expect that those currently in charge of the U.S. see the law not as a barrier, but as an inconvenience.

[–] knightly@pawb.social 1 points 21 hours ago

Are you kidding? They could spin it as "Saving a true patriot from the woke mob" and Trump would put him in charge of a federal prison. Any TDS cases in that prisons' admin would jump at the chance to demonstrate loyalty to their emperor.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I’m not confused about the system. I believe you completely about all these checks and balances, and I had no doubt about their existence before you explained them.

What I don’t believe is that any of it will stop him from doing whatever he wants. As evidenced by the events of the past two months. Did Kathy Hochul stop him from dropping Eric Adams corruption charges (yes, I know they were federal)? Did she instruct her AG to file state charges? Did she do anything at all to replace or remove Adams? What makes you think Walz would be any different?

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I believe you completely about all these checks and balances

This isn't a "checks and balances" thing. The Governor of Minnesota has the authority to order actual military firepower, like tanks and helicopters, to maintain order at the facility.

What makes you think Walz would be any different?

Hochul is a corrupt hack, Walz is not.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 0 points 20 hours ago

Tim Walz is not going to mobilize the military to stop one pedophile politician from getting released. Didn’t you just criticize my arguments for being unrealistic? I provided a real, contemporary example of what I’m arguing about. All you’ve done is project some noble fantasy onto a governor you probably had no idea existed until he became Harris’ running mate.

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

... and he will be released.

It doesn't work like that. The only way he gets out is if the Governor of Minnesota orders it and Gov. Tim Walz wouldn't.

He doesn’t care about mechanisms because that’s for someone else to worry about.

There ISN'T a mechanism, it simply doesn't exist. Trump can write the pardon if he wants but it would be meaningless. It wouldn't remove the conviction, wouldn't end his sentence, and wouldn't effect his release.

It'd be like Germany issuing a pardon for someone convicted of a crime in Spain and trying to order them released. They can issue the pardon and make the order but there's absolutely no way to enforce it short of direct military action.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 1 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

You can spout all this shit about rules and laws and that would really be a great argument if either of those things made any bit of difference to Donald Trump. These things only matter if someone enforces them. He basically committed high treason by attempting to coup the government and he was not only allowed to remain free, he became the president again. He’s openly broken the law, blatantly violated the constitution and completely ignored several court orders. The question isn’t “how will he do that” its “how will you stop him”.

Unless Tim Walz plants his ass in that prison and guards the release button personally, I don’t really see him presenting much of a problem.

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

its “how will you stop him”.

The State of Minnesota has its own force capabilities. Tim Walz could ring the facility with State Guard, order tanks to sit in the parking lot, and have combat helicopters flying over the facility 24x7. THAT is how its stopped. The State of Minnesota isn't a Court, it actually has the ability to enforce things using military firepower.

I don’t really see him presenting much of a problem.

People like you really aren't worth talking too. Sure bub, a Governor isn't much a problem. Uh huh.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml -2 points 20 hours ago

You are delusional if you think that there’s any chance Walz would escalate things to military resistance against the federal government. I would love it if he did, but that’s just a complete fantasy.

[–] Carighan@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

It's like always with these right-wingers: The louder they yell, the more you know they're guilty. In particular any time one of them cries "Protect the children", you should just cut their dick off right then and there.

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 15 points 1 day ago

Remember Pizzagate?

It's always projection with conservatives. We keep seeing it over and over. When will we believe them?

[–] PeterisBacon@lemm.ee 17 points 1 day ago

Sounds about right. Nasty mfs

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Trump sad it’s not a federal crime and he can’t pardon it 😔

[–] ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Busiest he'll have for some time, we hope.

[–] SouthFresh@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Still not a drag performer.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

The GOP is nothing other than a pedophile cult. The evidence just keeps stacking up against them

[–] Punchshark@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Not surprising. Maga loves Pedophiles

God damn, you can't make this stuff up

I wonder if this falls under projection, like the closeted gay pastor who rails against homosexuals.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

how long before the conservatives start doing that idiotic rubbing of their chin and trying to spin a conspiracy theory about how this guy was ackshually a democrat plant because why would he push that trump bill THEN go try to fuck a kid?

Willfully blind to the fact that their party is the party of diddlers, where there almost isnt a day that goes by where some new right wing piece of shit is in the news for kid diddling. Even their own orange idol has admitted to being a pedophile with his weird sexual attraction to his then underage daughter, plus his constant walking in on the teen pagent contestents while dressing/nude. Not to forget the testimonies from then children of what they did to and for him on Epsteins island.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

Well, that's one way to get rid of Republicans. Let's see how many we can get like this.
