The logical conclusion of this line of thinking is the Dems running Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon's corpses, saying "even these guys would be dems if they were alive today!" and losing in a landslide to a 100 year old Trump.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why do that, Dick Cheney's alive

They already had him tacitly endorse Harris this last round, why not give him a shot

Trump admin decrees the legality of three term presidency

Democratic party runs Bush/Cheney 2028

che-poggers

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

I think that would actually get me to sell my house and leave.

Please, we like our diversity and unity around here

Hillary Clinton/Dick Cheney

If a third term is okay why not two Veepees? The ticket could be Obama/Cheney&Cheney

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump will rot for 40,000 years on the golden throne and Democrats will continue to try to run moderate Republicans against him.

our version of the black ships will be scouring the lands for more pro-industry types to bring him

let`s face it, USA never liked democracy, just as the founding fathers intended.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

we all made fun of Bradley Whitford for not realizing his line in Get Out was a joke, but who's laughing now

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago

Okay, if Jordan Peele has the Lathe...

We can watch the Underground Americans rise up and stab everyone with scissors

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lmao if trump goes for a third term there won't be elections, or at least not legitimate elections (as far as that term can be applied to amerikkka)

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think the funnier option would be there's fair & square elections and trump still wins. OECD watched and all. How you gonna say no?

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s the more likely one. I really don’t buy the idea of him shutting down elections and I’m not even entirely convinced he’ll actually go for a third term.

[–] WorkingClassCorpse@hexbear.net 4 points 18 hours ago

I can see a future where Trump continues 'joking' about this idea and then his base starts threatening the RNC for saying they aren't letting him run in the primary

There are so many people who would need to go along with this that I have a really hard time imagining it happening. I still think half the reason republicans are so unified behind him is because they think they just have to put up with him for just another 4 years, similar to democrats thinking they 'just' had to beat Trump one more time and problem solved.

probably true, americans yearn for obama

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

obama's managed to pull in a lot of leftist voters in his first election, but his second election was dramatically less effective at doing so and i suspect that a 3rd election would be even less so now that we know of a lot of his sins.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

have you seen his approval numbers? americans like competent warcriminal. My good friend barack from rtx bernie, couple of amogus videos with lmaocia and bada boom

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago

i get this would work too. lol

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At the very least get someone entirely new. Bernie could have won by repackaging Obama’s 2008 vibe and maybe he would have reduced the imperial boomerang by some degree…who tf is going to re-elect the guy who said “SIKE!” on day one: both Obama and Biden?

Hogs are awful people, but you know they will make good on their campaign promises.

When it’s my turn to explain a Hexbear joke dean-smile

Basically, “hog” is another way to refer to reactionaries. Even non-hexbear related leftists will use it like Hasan. IDK where it comes from but it kind of ties in to some of the weird pig jokes we make like “post hog” or pigpoopballs.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

I'm adding it to my vernacular today

[–] WorkingClassCorpse@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The children, they yearn for the mines

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

No, child labor is wrong. obama-sad

But uber workforce without age verification do be offering compelling arguments for flexible arrangements

[–] GVAGUY3@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

I think it would be his narrowest victory, but he probably could pull it off with a remember how good things were under me campaign which while we know the truth, things do seem and are way worse now

God, I genuinely hope this happens.

That would be the funniest election ever.

Did Trump win on Bush nostalgia? No he didn’t. Yeah, we have the same jingoistic dipshittery but it was at least repackaged.
