why can't we just frolic in a meadow and eat berries in the sunshine?

why did humans choose "get a job" and "go to work" to occupy their time rather than hang out with friends and make music and art

I was once told (by random white people so take this with a grain of salt) that in Borneo they believe that orangutangs are actually able to speak but they are smart enough to keep their mouths shut because if people know they could speak they would have to work.

I love this so fucking much

other animals don't have to "get a job" or "go to work"?

Wild animals don't have to. Most of the nonhuman vertebrate animal biomass on planet earth is enslaved by industrial agriculture and never gets to leave their job or experience not working

Arthropods make up the largest percentile of animal biomass. Crabs are literally the most evolutionary perfected structure.

oh thank you the correction!

Oh it wasnt necessarily a correction! Arthropods are still harvest in farms.

Didn't consider this as i had filled the word "wild" in myself

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago

They didn't

They were forced into it by a few terrible humans that wanted to horde the berries so they could dominate others

There's a brief verse in the bible about how god made humanity to be like the birds, free and unworrying about work or conflict, just able to fly about, eat berries and chill tf out, and man isn't meant to need to do more on Earth. This is the heaven on earth the bible encourages people to build while they wait for heaven, and the bible mentions there is more than enough for all to be fed if living without conflict.

I'm not Christian but just another example of how as a group they completely fail to live up to their own standards. Somehow modern western Christians are the most greedy and blood-thirsty people in history.

Jesus was literally a third worldist "land-back" <- (literally said by him) socialist, the religion he founded was then adopted by the very empire he was murdered by. The defangment and iconistation of revolutionaries to serve the interest of empire is very old. Even the modern us isnt "above" using marxist & populist rhetoric to sell empire to the masses.

24 "No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you — you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today.

We’re way beyond that. Now so many people don’t have the “privilege” of getting to work thanks to the rich’s picky ass.

I’m literally begging for a world where jobs aren’t a luxury. Yes, this includes the education. I want a world where a doctor can fuck up in med school, and then regroup and try again.

Well time is commodified by capitalism, thats why neuro-atypicals are vilified, indigenous people were seen as lazy and why ageism and wrinkels are the worst thing in the world.

the orangutans are once again laughing at us

I think there was a climate change induced crisis/migration that more or less concentrated us into smaller, fragmented habitats and somehow the douchebags got to be in charge.

of the two creation stories I am most familiar with, theres a consistent narrative of things being pretty great for a timeless and then an expulsion or forced migration away. sometimes several forced migrations before a new "world" is found. I think the Navajo/Dine refer to like 5 worlds prior to their current traditional homeland.

Neolithic europe literally had a genocide of 70-80% of all men during the rise of agriculture.

Not enough berries to go around. Billions would die. Also, sometimes there are no berries at all.

I'm absolutely not a "hierarchy is natural" guy but there are examples of animals that work for other animals. Ants will literally domesticate aphids and harvest their secretions.

That being said i don't think we decided to work i think it was decided for us by the ancient sociopaths

I mean humans are a natural extension of the ecosphere. Everything we do isnt completely disconnected from nature, even when its not to its long term benefit which is also a very human thing to be concerned about.

Because there isnt an animal or group of animals either all the money. In our society the few have more thsn everyone combined and all they want is more and so we need to work ourselves to death to enrich them further
