Well I know what I'm doing this afternoon

[–] eightpix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

There is no other answer than this.

[–] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 44 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The actor who had only bad films.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 1 points 1 month ago

Or an actor that only did television shows.

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 1 points 1 month ago

They did it on purpose !

[–] Jagger2097@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Correct, but also sad

[–] superkret@feddit.org 16 points 1 month ago (6 children)

Nicholas Cage. And I'm ready to die on that hill.

Omg the top comment on that first video:

"I don't even think that girl knew she was being filmed."

Amazing.

[–] mosiacmango@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

We may have slightly different definitions of good, but fair enough.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 month ago

See, I can think of a few movies of his that I have problems with. Yet I wouldn't call them bad, only missing a few cylinders to bring them to perfect. He has been in a few that are top, damn Con Air is about the perfect movie ever for what it was aiming to be.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Prisoners of the ghostland would like a word

[–] JessyKenning@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I just can't take Vampire's Kiss.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

This is the only correct answer.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Daniel Day Lewis

His filmography is very limited because he was extremely picky about what he appeared in. But even still, I think all of his movies were good, even if done of them were uncomfortable to watch.

[–] thewanderingbackpack@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nine (2009) has entered the chat

[–] dunz@feddit.nu 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

~~Daniel Day Lewis isn't in 9, and it's not a bad movie.~~ 9 != Nine. To my defense, they were both released in 2009

[–] ghostlychonk@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Different movie. He is in the movie Nine, but not in 9.

[–] dunz@feddit.nu 3 points 1 month ago

Confusing that a movie called 9 released the same year as another movie named Nine 😃

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 15 points 1 month ago

Technically Correct since they are all bad...

[–] jenni007@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago

James Stewart, James Cagney

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He sure as hell did better acting than Keanu in Dracula.

[–] thisbenzingring 2 points 1 month ago

he plays the part straight out of the book!

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

What about movies where the actor’s performance was the only good thing in an otherwise bad film? I don’t think those should count against the actor. They did their job well; it’s not their fault the rest of the production sucked.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Every Nick Cage movie ever

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago

How do you quantify "bad?"

[–] Double_A@discuss.tchncs.de -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] YoiksAndAway@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

The best kind of correct!

[–] 1984@lemmy.today -4 points 1 month ago

Tom Cruise. I seriously think I like all his films.

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world -4 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Tom Cruise. It's awkward but undeniable.

[–] TheCelticPirate@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

The Mummy (2017)

[–] eightpix@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

M-I:2 was a miss on so many levels.

John Woo tried his best. That script couldn't be saved.

I say this as a person whose guilty pleasure is a rewatch of any M:I movie. But, I can't give any time to this turd sandwich.

[–] zout@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

This one I have at least heard of! A critical flop but box-office success, apparently. So not obviously "bad".

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Losin' It is a 1982 comedy film directed by Curtis Hanson, and starring Tom Cruise, Shelley Long, Jackie Earle Haley and John Stockwell. The film follows four teenagers trying to lose their virginity. It was filmed largely in Calexico, California.

...

The film received negative reviews from critics. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 18% of 11 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 4.3/10.[3] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 51 out of 100, based on 4 critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.

Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert criticized the film on their TV program At the Movies. Siskel called it "dreadful" and "predictable."

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

OK that one passes.

But in a way that's the point. Others here are proposing young actors who have made single-digit numbers of movies. Pretty easy to have a 100% hit rate when you've made 4 movies! Tom Cruise has been making films nonstop for 4 decades.

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 month ago

I'd be tempted to argue that it hits what it was aiming for. It's meant to be a cheap raunchy Porky's rip-off, and it succeeds. I suspect Cruise does a good job in it - the year before he did Taps, and the year after he did All the Right Moves.

[–] iknowitwheniseeit@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I guess you haven't seen Top Gun: Maverick yet?

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

Eh, it wasn't that bad really, only when compared to original top gun

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Ha. Indeed I haven't. But I understand it was not exactly bad.

I thought it was something of a meme at this point, that the crazy scientologist somehow never picks bad projects. To the point that other actors know they can jump in if it gets his seal of approval.

I certainly haven't seen a bad one, anecdotally.
