Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Would be really based if true, but it's most likely not

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 63 points 2 months ago

It's definitely a lie to justify nuking China

[–] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 76 points 2 months ago (1 children)

our noble Google Maps vs their savage Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

They have sub meter accuracy on their constellation to which is pretty wild. US military satellites have ~10cm accuracy in a targeted location and Google's internal data varies from 2m to 20m depending on location. The higher res stuff is usually still from drones or aerial imagery (cameras strapped to planes that are then used to build an orthograpic image, which is why there's weird distortion in some places).

Even as someone who thinks China is cool, I'm skeptical that they're that cool.

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago

Yeah this is more of the China bad propaganda.

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Come on, it's pretty believable a satellite corporation is selling imagery to Iran for money lol

[–] Formerlyfarman@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Iran has its own satellites.

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago

Yea, like 6 of them and their space agencies budget is 200 million USD

I don't think it's farfetched that a Chinese company has far greater capabilities than what they have

[–] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

China isn't that cool

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

The "State linked military org" part is hyperbole but Iran probably does buy satellite imagery to make up for its own poor satellite coverage

CGSTL is part of China's military-civil fusion program, where private companies are expected to serve military needs when ordered by the government.

Not like our good wholesome western companies who kill people just for love of the game. Palantir's CEO was just bragging about how they murder people last month.

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

Our wholesome intelligence sharing vs their insidious spying

[–] dkr567@hexbear.net 47 points 2 months ago

Another sinophobic propaganda piece made by the #1 terror organization in the world. It must be nice being their propagandist if you are the biggest anti social person

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 43 points 2 months ago

"state-linked" is a qualifier for all satellite companies anywhere in the world, by the way

adding that to the companies descriptor is meaningless

Here's a video of the US State Department spokesperson talking about the Chinese company and blaming China. She says that it is China who is against peace in the middle east. i-cant

A company from a country... that also does business with a branch of that country's goverment... is also doing business with another country.

There are like 10 private, for profit, satellite imagery companies is America that will sell you access to their realtime data if you have a credit card and $5000. Iran could also buy from them because of muh free market. But it's only an issue when they stop buying from them and start buying from a Chinese company that has better data at a lower price.

[–] hellinkilla@hexbear.net 39 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What a bunch of entitled losers whining about adversaries in a military conflict "peeking" unfairly.

Without reading any of the links it sounds as if houthis having been scoring some wins on their more powerful enemy.

[–] hellinkilla@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I read the ft link (thanks comrade for supplying both original and archive).

Funniest sentence all week:

Trump has made tackling Red Sea instability a priority, amid concerns that the Houthis continue to pose a threat to the global economy.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago

Trump's tariff policy is a greater threat to the global economy than the righteous defense of Palestine under international law.

Very based Chinese capitalists if true some-controversy

If the US thinks this is propaganda that will turn people against China they are sorely mistaken.

If any of the pro-palestine libs I know heard China were materially supporting the resistance they would become considerably pro-China.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago

I wondered how they were gonna manufacture consent

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I knew they'd manufacture lies of some sort, it was only a matter of time in what it would be about

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

Yet Starlink is a free enterprise.

America should be careful. Convince enough people China is doing stuff like this and they suddenly have nothing to lose by actually doing it.
