Libs thinking tankies like modern capitalist post-soviet Russia will never not be funny to me. Way to reveal you know nothing about communists or basic history from less than 50 years ago.
I have to tell my mom Russia isn't the Soviet Union anymore and is no longer communist. But of course gommunism = authoritarian dictatorship = evil dictator Vlabeanmir Putin. It's especially awful because she loves Cold War spy thriller slop.
The really telling thing is they can apparently make the distinction between Nazi and Post-War Germany even when the Western half was still being run by former nazis. Hell they even routinely try to rehabilitate the Wehrmacht every so often, like some sort of hobby.
But 3 decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union they can't point out Russian connections to Trump without festooning it with hammers and sickles.
And these are the same people who expect you to believe they are capable of nuance with other thorny geopolitical issues. Yet they all rallied around the flag when President Cheeto Election Fraud, Mr Russian Disinformatskaya himself, blew up an Iranian general in Iraq.
This could be the start of a wholesome romcom and the tankie will convince the MAGA to abandon trump because trump hates gay people. They will also team up to destroy the American empire and in the final moments of the series one of them will die.

If you think about it, they have to pretend right wing ideology is real and that ours is not real. Like they know colonialism exists, they know that America is an empire to some extent, they just think it's a good empire. They know there's no global conspiracy of multiculturalism. But if you want to do horseshoe theory, you have to equate the fake thing with the real thing. You make the fake thing true and the true thing fake. That's exactly how they help the right. In order for their worldview to make sense they have to validate right wing crankery. Otherwise, the thing we believe is true and they have to confront that.

That aside, it’s only natural for anticommunists to throw nuance out the window (at least when they aren’t the ones on the defensive) and resort to George Bush logic like ‘If you’re not with us, you’re against us.’ Nothing unexpected here.
