Ah yes, see our Twitter feed that no longer shows current posts even if you are logged in for updates.

How hard can it be for a network company to run a static website with a status page on it.

Even per postal code level data could be provided by one computer and updated in seconds.

This page was consistently green this morning

Zero fucks from Bell

They need to get on Mastodon and/or Bluesky.

This fact has me considering dropping bell more than the outage itself.

It is totally indefensible for a telecom company to rely on X, steaming pile of inaccessible garbage that it is, for critical communications.

I didn't have internet for a couple hours today using videotron.

My MiL sent me a text asking me if we had a power outage. She probably conflated the news of country wide internet outage with hydro.

"Hydro? No, our taps are still running fine!"

Bell > Virgin
Thats why I didn't have internet today!

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

.... They're the same network?

[–] dankm@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Same company even. Bell owns Virgin in Canada.

[–] roserose56@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Exactly! It's a game for two in Canada, Bell and Rogers own almost all Isp`s.

[–] dankm@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Lucky for Quebec and Saskatchewan where they have non-Robelus ISPs.

But a couple of years ago people were saying this kind of outage only ever happens on Rogers.

It's almost like these networks are getting to big and complex for the amount of well trained, well experienced staff have to maintain the system.

Mine has been down since Friday night

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

Only noticed because a place I support stopped responding to pings and I got a message. Thanks again bell for having lower standards than a hobby admin.

It never went down here in Ottawa for me. Based on the tiny sample size of my circle of friends, everyone using the gigahub for PPPOE login went down, and everyone using PPPOE passthrough did not. So I think it's something to do with the ISP provided router. Pushed bad firmware to everyone maybe?

I had a few people using Ebox get affected by this. Hard to say if they don’t own the CPE.
