Kill the radio or at least all the advertisement over PA. What was wrong with the easy listening music we had in stores?

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It didn't generate revenue

[–] tenacious_mucus@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

But….i’m already in the store trying to buy the things? Why do i need to hear constant jingle advertisements for the store im already in? Not jingles for products or certain sale items…just the store itself….as if i kept forgetting where i was?

“Save big money, save big money at Menards!!” Yeah, i know- that’s why im here! But ima leave if that shit doesnt stop!

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 month ago

IDK, probably some behavioral psychology thing where it makes you think about them every time you need to go shopping without realising it.

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 month ago

The point of the jungle is that it sticks around after you leave, lingering in your subconscious, always on standby for the next time you need some landscaping tools at a fraction of the price of those other guys.

🎶Save big money at Menaaaaaard's🎶

There's ads over the PA? I have never heard any. It might be because I'm typically in-and-out and focused on just getting what I need or maybe I've just been tuning them out. I'll have to listen more carefully next time I'm at Target and Walmart.

[–] dbx12@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

There is one big store here which constantly advertises a set of products in the store. It made not buy the product out of spite (and the fact it's made by a subsidiary of Nestle, because /c/fucknestle)

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 53 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I dunno 'bout y'all, but the most annoying thing for me when shopping is that I want all this stuff, but they want all this money that I don't have. That shit's kinda fucked up if you ask me.

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

I kinda get it. I want all that money, too

The clickbait title from 2018 was referring to credit-card signatures.

https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-target-kill-receipt-signature-requirements-2018-4

As credit-card companies kill customer-signature requirements, retailers like Walmart and Target are following suit.

Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express have either already stopped or announced plans to stop requiring customers to sign their receipts when checking out.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (4 children)

There was still a requirement to sign in the USA in 2018???

🤦

[–] lars 8 points 1 month ago

Pretty sure I’ve had to sign at least once this year. Lotta freedom tho.

[–] Lv_InSaNe_vL@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Requirement? No.

Old terminals that weren't replaced/updated? Yeah absolutely. I still periodically have to sign.

[–] bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I have seen a gas pump have a "press cancel to skip PIN entry" message...

Edit: here it is https://imgur.com/bypass-pin-veorkyV

Usually they ask for the zip code of the billing address, and if you found a card, there's a good chance you'd be in that zip code.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

just because us statesians have heard of PINs doesn't mean we know how to use them

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Just at Walmart? Because tons businesses still requiring it even on small amounts. Fucking annoying.

[–] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

USA problems

An elderly Walmart greeter:

"Go ahead hero, pull the trigger. You got killer in your eyes, son? ...I don't see it."

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (3 children)

What is a Walmart greeter?

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

People who are paid to hang out at the entrance/exits to discourage shoplifting by checking receipts against what's in the cart.

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And people let them look through their stuff?

[–] Carvex@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don’t, I walk right by the guy with my cart. I just paid for all this shit at the cashier which already took forever due to incompetence, on no less than 20 cameras with their own employee scanning items. They have no authority to hold me there and I already own the items in the cart.

If they accuse me of stealing, they will never get another dollar from me. I hope there are many others like me.

[–] Galapagon@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago

My wife thinks I'm rude for handing them the receipt on my way out. They want it so bad, they can keep it!

[–] Duranie@leminal.space 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I didn't wait for them to accuse me of stealing. My final straw was when they removed 80% of the check outs in favor of self check outs.

[–] Lv_InSaNe_vL@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Self check outs >>> traditional check outs though

[–] janNatan@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

About $7.25 an hour

[–] Poem_for_your_sprog@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

The most annoying thing is how they constantly move things around so I can't find what I want.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

They've come to the conclusion that butchering the customers and selling their organs is more profitable.

[–] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 6 points 1 month ago

I came in here thinking that they were finally going to cut costs to the bone by getting rid of employees. Make the customer pay if items aren't restocked to perfection, and no more annoying employees who are being forced to ask if you need help. Sort of like those amazon stores that you 'pay' first with your credit card to enter the store and it tracks what you take.

Pure, sweet business profits, eh? Eeeh? I bet we could convince an mba to make that pitch, and could bankrupt a few stores before they realize the idiocy.

[–] GooberEar@lemmy.wtf 4 points 1 month ago

I get it's a meme, but I'd be hard pressed to find one thing that's not annoying about shopping in these places.
