How does someone unironically embrace "socialism is when no iphone?"

“Your iPhone is actually capital” is straight up a libertarian take where having the tiniest bit of consumer goods means you’ve got all you need to become petty bourgeoisie and ergo you’re not working class. This screams the sort of contrarian fucker who bounces between different flavors of radical politics while only ever having a surface level understanding of any of them. That doesn’t stop them from smugly talking down to everyone in those movements, of course.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 35 points 3 months ago (1 children)

"Your iPhone is capital" people have never read theory and are clueless as to what capital is or why having it vs not having it is relevant

[–] sawne128@hexbear.net 32 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Legs are capital because you can use them to walk to a stock exhange.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

speak for yourself, my legs walk me to the iphone store to buy more capital

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If anything the iPhone is the modern opiate of the masses. The biggest problem with the eternal science of Marx-Lenninism is the fact that most people are too dumb to be scientists.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Crack cocaine of the masses

Slop and treats being popular means slop and treats are marxism

Logic of a lot of r/deprogram posts

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

Anyone unironically making a "yet you live in society, curious?" take isn't worth engaging with.

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

ultras go brrrrr

i will say though that censoring Dengism is pretty funny.

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 29 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There's a screenshot in there somewhere about how dengism is a response to the victory of Trump in 2016 and I'm like, um, no?

So clear this dude is just talking out his butt.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago

Deng in 1978: "This isn't going to make much sense right now, but in about 40 years it'll all click into place."

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago

Charitably, maybe they meant that western self proclaimed communists getting into Dengism is a response to Trump's victory and aren't talking about Dengism's rise in China way back in the 80s?

five bucks thats a gonzolite

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm not familiar with the term. What's that?

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Marxist-Leninist-Maoist Peruvian Shining Path ideological strain. It's a quasi-derogative label for someone who subscribes to that ideological dead-end.

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well, that's an "interesting" strain of Marxism I haven't heard of. I'm going to go read that about it on proles wiki.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

make sure to not throw the baby out of the soupwater while you're learning about them

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh absolutely. Appreciate the warning comrade

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

serious note, there's actual graphic shit that they've done so if you're not looking for anything gut-wrenching I'd stick to a basic synopsis

I almost said that this person was a removed, but I thought that might be a little too far 🤣

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Evidently it was since you triggered the slur filter. I'm pretty sure the term you used is racist.

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

No its just conspiratorial unless you count discrimination against feds as racist.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago (2 children)

oh you used that one. So a few years back it was pointed out that the word has anti-black roots on top of having significant connections to channer lingo, it was more or less decided that it's more hassle than its worth arguing over and threw the word in the slur filter gulag.

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I still stand by the position that the real reason was to curtail my Stirnerposting 😤

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

I think comrade's talking about derivatives of "glow", not the Stirnerite/Halloween one.

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well what do you know. I had no idea. I will ensure it's removed from my vocab.

I appreciate the extra info.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

there's like 5 years of hexbear lore where we've argued over all sorts of shit so to a lot of old heads this stuff's well hashed out but new folks won't have a clue about. I mean a good example of this is that we used to have a comm called the dunk tank where, by the name sounds, you post things from dorks and dipshits to dunk on. Problem was that it was eventually learned that dunk tanks, like this historical thing where you throw a ball at a button trigger to drop someone in a tub of water, originally started in the U.S as a game for dunking black americans a la "African dodger" (being the most tasteful name out of all the others) eventually leading to that comm being shut down and reopened as the "slop" comm because we're all hungry little piggies looking to get fed our trash.

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Well I am definitely a hungry piggy that loves slop I had no idea about the dunk tanks. Man the united states is super racist its just like hidden surface deep.

I wish there was like a lore place for the history of hexbear. Better it was wild.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

you could probably make a post, with a picture of a fat brown bear, and say "Hey I'm mainly new to hexbear, please dump site lore on me like you're dumping slop in a pig trough" and get a bunch of info like that.

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Excellent idea, I guess I'll be posting during peak hours tomorrow.

I could do that on slop, right?

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

try Main. Also if you want to mess with people include in the body of the post "Main rule is in effect in this thread"

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

Sounds like fun, I will definitely be doing that. Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate the lore and history lesson.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

English language itself is like minefield of racism old and new, harsh for non-native speakers to discover it by permban from comrades :(

[–] dastanktal@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah I can definitely see that and empathize. I am native speaker and I am constantly finding out old popular terms are racist and I had no clue.

I can't imagine how hard it is for non native English speakers.

[–] copandballtorture@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago

No-Cardiologist wouldn't help turn over a flipped tortoise in the hot desert sun, I can tell you that much

[–] Spongebobsquarejuche@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

It’s a pretty good bit. Had me til the end there.
