And before that it was lines from Monty Python

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

[–] Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Not at all! They could be carried!

[–] Death__BySnuSnu@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What? A swallow carrying a coconut?

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It could grip it by the husk!

[–] DataDisrupter@feddit.nl 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's not a question of where it grips it, it's a simple question of weight ratios!

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 months ago

A five oz bird cannot carry a one pound coconut!

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Imo, kind of a shame that Holy Grail dominates the references, with some backup from Life of Brian, and like one line from Meaning of Life. So much good stuff from Flying Circus goes unused.

I know you're there - lurking under the floorboards with your damsons and your prunes...

The other jokes are ex-jokes. They have shuffled off the mortal coil.

Even after Austin Powers came out it was Monty Python. Or Aqua Teen Hunger Force (specifically the first mooninites episode). Sealab 2021 gets honorable mention.

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 29 points 4 months ago (1 children)

… those were memes. Memes were never invented, they were just identified.

[–] omgboom@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 4 months ago (2 children)

And lines from Chappelle's show. I'M RICK JAMES BITCH

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 4 months ago (1 children)

This was so annoying it broke Dave chappelle

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago

Nah, money and power broke him. He had is crisis of faith, and then went all the way to Africa just to decide he liked being rich as fuck, and then he started acting like a rich fuck.

It was never one source, always a combination, but when something quotable came out, it became vocally memed to death for like a whole year.

[–] OopsOverbombing@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

"That's a man, man!"

"Austin! That's my mother!"

"Ah... Well, you have to admit she is a bit man-ish."

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 6 points 4 months ago (2 children)
