I am having flashbacks to the late 90s when my evangelical youth group would have a Super Bowl party, turn off the game at half time, then play a “halftime video” on VHS where some NFL player like Reggie White would deliver the gospel message. The videos were timed just long enough to last the duration of halftime. Don’t know if churches still do that or not…

Christianity sounds so lame

Did you ever go to one of the Christian Haunted House attractions for Halloween?

im pretty sure hating the halftime show has been a favorite republican pastime since i was born, it almost feels like the ur-example of them hating everything culturally

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I wonder when it started, first example I can think of was Janet Jackson

[–] GoebbelsDeezNuts@hexbear.net 26 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Areosmith and NSYNC was before that and they were mad about that too

Boomers were crashing out on Steven Tyler in 2001 for this and also for fucking up the national anthem at the Indy 500

thinking about it now, this was all pre 9/11 which I assumed is what broke everyone’s brains but no we were already cooked

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 23 points 5 months ago

Steven Tyler being a pedo: sleepi

Steven Tyler doing a bad national anthem: grill-broke

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 33 points 5 months ago (1 children)

god why do they have to be talking about the super bowl fucking four months early

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 27 points 5 months ago

They’re trying to distract you. They recently lost an entire division’s worth during the autumn skirmishes. Their media is downplaying the losses but at an operational level they don’t seem to have a cohesive reaction. The war on Christmas is going so badly they have to bring up the Super Bowl? Prepare for a dire winter.

I’m guessing Kid Rock will be there. Ted Nugent maybe?

[–] dead@hexbear.net 26 points 5 months ago (3 children)

I saw a rumor that they were trying to get Creed.

This is almost sad

Like fucking Godsmack would be a step up from this shit

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I think Godsmack has music in that Jesus teaches MMA movie, so I think they'd probably be willing to do this.

Come to think of it, Newsboys ("God's Not Dead") have done stuff with Trump before, so they might perform. Never mind, I looked it up and I don't think they're going to be appearing much anywhere now.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago (8 children)

Ah fuck are Godsmack chuds? I love them.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 12 points 5 months ago

I remember them being pretty explicitly pagan so I’m guessing they’re not on the Christian nationalism train, but who knows.

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I was making a joke but that does suck if true

[–] Ithorian@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago

Pretty sure Sully is wiccan.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I admit I don't have very strong opinions on them, I can name like one song from them, I just happen to remember they were on the soundtrack for that one movie: https://www.ccmmagazine.com/news/the-carpenter-film-intertwines-mma-heavy-metal-jesus-in-inspiring-tale/ . I don't really know how much it means versus just their manager signing off on another licensing deal for an inoffensive movie.

Hilarious movie, by the way. It has an unironic needle drop of "Bodies" by Drowning Pool in 2023. In a Christian slopaganda movie that takes place around the New Testament. Can you imagine that conversation?

Are all bands under that whole ”post-grunge” umbrella chuds? I guess Nickelback don't seem to be.

If they were smart it'd be Disturbed but they must negotiate with all the evangelicals who won't settle for anything more that three mid-teir christian rock bands.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago

Kid Rock or Ted Nugent or the guy who sings "I'm proud to be an American because at least I know I'm free" or other chud music acts?

Sounds like a real hootenanny.

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago (11 children)

Those guys seem a bit too costly, you're going to have to settle for Trapt and Drowning Pool.

[–] WIIHAPPYFEW@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago

Ted Nugent wouldn’t do it anyway bc he’s too old by now but I could see them getting Kid Rock, pretty sure he’s up for anything, he feels like Snoop Dogg for racists

TPUSA was very careful to not use the trademarked phrase "Super Bowl" in their tweet or on the website.

It was announced that Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny would be performing lead at the actual halftime show. Puerto Rico is a US territory and the people who live there are US citizens. Bad Bunny performs music in Spanish. The new Republican culture war is saying that Bad Bunny is not a US citizen because he's from Puerto Rico.

It feels like it's becoming a trend for US right wingers to get mad about the Super Bowl halftime show. Last year they complained about Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift. In 2023, Trump called the Super Bowl show with Rihanna, "the worst halftime show in super bowl history". In 2022, Charlie Kirk said that the Super Bowl show with multiple hip hop artists was "sexual anarchy".

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 16 points 5 months ago

The new Republican culture war is saying that Bad Bunny is not a US citizen because he's from Puerto Rico.

I don't think I've heard this from anyone with much influence. The point is more that, because his music is in Spanish and he's vocally anti Trump (not a lot of half time show worthy artists who aren't TBH) he appeals to a lot of Hispanic people and it looks like a symbolic middle finger to the right from the NFL; obviously this is irrational since he's just an enormous artist, as always the chuds just want to play the victim. I don't think they're going as far as to deny that Bad Bunny is a citizen though, if anything it's more that he appeals to immigrants, hence Kristi Noem promising that they'll have the DHS at the Super Bowl catching immigrants.

Save spaces are for losers, say conservatives. Then they create this. Zero introspection means you never gotta slow down.

Like, wouldn't most conservatives want to be there for their five minute hate so that they can say they saw it? Wouldn't not seeing it mean you are sus to your conservatives friends, because if you didn't watch the halftime show, did you even watch the sports ball at all?! Were you even grilling?!?!?!
