Basically literally legendarily so.

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Exactly. I'm failing to see the issue here?

Ya, Tchaikovsky made bangers, plain and simple. 1812 Overture, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, the list goes on....

I swear he made the 4th to rid the world of people who fall asleep during performances, and I love him for it.

And for all the other bangers too. I'm sure many composers in history have reflected on their pieces and whispered under their breath "you know what this song needs? Canons!" But did they have the balls to do it? No.

This ends my exposition on why Tchaikovsky is the greatest composer to have ever lived. Thank you.

Swan Lake is my jam. Marche Slave if I want something short form.

I've genuinely listened to the soundtrack while studying. Late imperial Russian Orchestra/Ballet is full of bangers

Firebird Suite? More like FIREbird...oh.

Can't recommend Night on Bald Mountain enough.

And damn right he is!

Tschaikowsky had so many catchy tunes in the nutcracker suite.
Yet my introduction to this brilliant composer was somewhere else:

This song has no right to go as hard as it does, but the world is better for it

I want to suggest the decca phase four stereo Robert sharples London orchestra version from the 60s

Kind of hard to find, but imo, this is the definitive version of it. It has some overdriven and murky sections, but the pacing, instrumentation, stereo spread, and imaging is hot sex. It's not that realistic but I don't give a fuck. Also, YouTube probably isn't the best for this sort of listening, but it mostly gets the point across, and I couldn't find this recording on any streaming service. A very fun listen to just get lost in.

Edit: 5:50 is the start of the dance of the sugar plum fairy

That is a great version.

Am I going insane or does it sound like the microphones were below the instruments? I know how mental that sounds but the whole way through I felt like the orchestra were slightly above me.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

Ha. Not for me, but I'm not surprised. This stuff was all mastered for the 60s and whatever "hifi" meant at that time. Put a single tissue paper over your tweeters and return to the 60s hahaha

The season is ADVENT. The banger this season is Veni Veni Emanuelle/O Come O Come Emanuelle. The Nutcracker is Xmas which runs 12/25-1/6. Wrong season

Oh man, that was so good, thanks for sharing it. I'm a big fan of both metal and interesting covers of songs, so this is my jam. I anticipate that I'm going to listen to the songs from this album so much that my housemates will get sick of them

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 weeks ago

Tis the season of giving, after all!

Glad you liked it!
