Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Did Opie edit their link in the end? It looks the same now.

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh hey, they did!  Musta forgot what platform they were posting on, lol.

I'm new around here, it was my first post. I think I got it now.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 75 points 2 months ago (4 children)

God damn way to bury the lede with that title. He's an old guy I assume found dead in his home means he died like of old age or cardiac arrest or something. Not that it's potential double homicide.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 50 points 2 months ago (2 children)

And reports now saying it's their son

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Hello, my name is Nick Reiner. You killed my father. Prepare to die...

Well, this is awkward.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Yeah, it didn't feel good to write either.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 4 points 2 months ago

Would make more sense to be one of the other siblings saying that to him, wouldn't it?

It very well be true…but calling what People does “reporting” isn’t great. People was always a tabloid, but is now akin to TMZ as it struggles for relevance.

“Source say”…then not including what any of the sources actually said is just hack.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not saying he didn't do it. In fact I'm pretty sure at the end of the day it will come out that he did.

But Pepperidge Farm remembers when news reporters remembered to use the world "allegedly" in their headlines until after the trial was concluded.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I remember lots of over the top and ironic use of that term years after the Simpson trial, too, since nearly everyone thought he did it.

It's still really wild how Norm Macdonald was one of the few people who wasn't a cowering pussy about it...but probably lost his job at SNL over it.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

He definitely lost his job over it.

Stabbed of old age…

[–] arsCynic@piefed.social 71 points 2 months ago (2 children)

“In June 2021, Reiner said that he was working on a 10- to 13-episode TV project covering the relationship between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. The project, he said, would cover the leaders' childhoods up until the point where their lives cross.” ―https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Reiner#Political_views

Hmm 🧐.

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 29 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Yay, more conspiracy theories - like we didn't have more than enough already.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 30 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Clearly a conspiracy theory because no one in the USA is ever killed because of their political activism.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Or killed because they had a son who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, has been in and out of rehab since 17 years old, and has been homeless multiple times.

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

Nope. I'm sorry, but that story does not reinforce the glory of Trump. The God Emperor will not accept that explanation.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago

Having happened before does not mean it's equally likely in all cases. Jesus, critical thinking is dead now.

[–] andallthat@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago

Yeah, they didn't even kiss until season 2!

[–] arsCynic@piefed.social 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Suspect hypothesis, not conspiracy theory. Especially in the USA it's not far fetched at all.

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

That would be why Trumps response was to slag him off then

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 66 points 2 months ago

Their son Nick is in custody for the crimes. RIP Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner. Reiner brought so much hilarity and joy.

[–] MerrySkeptic@sh.itjust.works 40 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Reports now coming in that it was their son, Nick. Tragic

[–] Maiq@piefed.social 28 points 2 months ago

Stabbed? That's fucked up!

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

People has some helpful links at the bottom of their story. No, People, I don't like this, I don't want to read this:

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 11 points 2 months ago

desperate click farming intensifies

[–] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 23 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

De-Googled link.

I had no idea that was his mom in "When Harry..."

[–] msfroh@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 months ago

Spinal Tap II just came to HBO on Friday. Rob Reiner was amazing in that.

[–] nocturne@piefed.social 16 points 2 months ago

Got an actual link to a story and not Google?

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

Man, I remember when he played Archie's son-in-law Meathead, married to Archie's hot daughter, Gloria. And in real life his dad was Carl Reiner, another amazing genius.

I genuinely expected Rob to live to 98, just like his old man did. This is horrible. RIP.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Stand by me is one of my all time favorite movies. Evan as a kid the campfire scene where Chris talks about who stole the lunch money makes me tear up even today. It’s such a terrible thing to wake up to hear of Rob and Michelle’s death. RIP to you both, you may be gone but you will not be forgotten ever.

[–] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Inconceivable! Sorry but I think Rob would appreciate these kinds of jokes.

[–] JerkyChew@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 3 points 2 months ago

Maybe he's only mostly dead?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I had seen that Spinal Tap 2 just hit the digital format on the 12th. I wonder if that is at all related, assuming his son did it...
